Overview

This document is a user manual for the Zanussi ZQA12430DV Refrigerator, providing essential information for its safe installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Zanussi ZQA12430DV is a refrigerator designed for household and similar applications. It features a refrigerator compartment for storing fresh food and a freezer compartment for freezing and storing frozen and deep-frozen food. The appliance operates automatically to regulate temperature and includes an automatic defrosting system for the refrigerator compartment.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: ZQA12430DV
  • Dimensions:
    • Height: 815 mm
    • Width: 596 mm
    • Depth: 550 mm
  • Electrical:
    • Voltage: 230-240 Volts
    • Frequency: 50 Hz
    • Supplied with a 13 amp fuse (ASTA approved BS 1362).
  • Refrigerant: Isobutane (R600a), a natural gas with high environmental compatibility, which is flammable.
  • Insulation: The insulation foam contains flammable gas.
  • Rising Time: 13 hours (indicates how long defrosted food remains safe in case of power failure).
  • Climate Class: The appliance is designed to operate within specific ambient temperature ranges:
    • SN: +10°C to +32°C
    • N: +16°C to +32°C
    • ST: +16°C to +38°C
    • T: +16°C to +43°C
    • Optimal operation is guaranteed within these specified ranges.
  • Maximum Freezing Quantity: The maximum amount of food that can be frozen in 24 hours is indicated on the rating plate.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Regulation: The temperature is regulated automatically. Users can adjust the temperature regulator clockwise for higher coldness (maximum) or counter-clockwise for lower coldness (minimum). A medium setting is generally recommended, but the optimal setting depends on room temperature, door opening frequency, food quantity, and appliance location.
  • Freezing Fresh Food: The freezer compartment is suitable for freezing fresh food. For faster freezing, the temperature regulator can be set to higher settings to achieve maximum coldness. However, this may cause the refrigerator compartment temperature to drop below 0°C, requiring a reset to a warmer setting.
  • Storage of Frozen Food: Before storing frozen products, the appliance should run for at least 2 hours on higher settings. In case of accidental defrosting due to power failure exceeding the "rising time," defrosted food must be consumed quickly or cooked and re-frozen after cooling.
  • Thawing: Deep-frozen or frozen food can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature. Small pieces can be cooked directly from frozen, though cooking time will be longer.
  • Positioning Door Shelves: The door shelves are adjustable to accommodate various food package sizes. They can be pulled out and repositioned as needed.
  • Movable Shelves: The refrigerator walls are equipped with runners, allowing shelves to be positioned as desired.
  • Variable Storage Box: This model includes a storage box that can be moved sideways.
  • Energy Saving Tips: To save energy, avoid frequent or prolonged door openings. If ambient temperature is high, the appliance is fully loaded, and the temperature regulator is set low, the compressor may run continuously, causing frost. In such cases, setting the regulator to warmer settings allows automatic defrosting and reduces electricity consumption.
  • Fresh Food Refrigeration Tips: Do not store warm food or evaporating liquids. Cover or wrap food, especially those with strong flavors. Position food to allow free air circulation. Meat should be wrapped and stored on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer for 1-2 days. Cooked foods and cold dishes should be covered. Fruits and vegetables should be cleaned and placed in a special drawer, but bananas, potatoes, onions, and garlic should not be kept in the refrigerator unless packed. Butter and cheese should be in airtight containers or wrapped in foil/polythene. Bottles should be capped and placed on door shelves or bottle racks.
  • Freezing Tips: Refer to the rating plate for maximum freezing quantity in 24 hours. Do not add more food to be frozen during this 24-hour period. Freeze only high-quality, fresh, and thoroughly cleaned foodstuffs. Prepare food in small portions for rapid freezing and easier thawing. Wrap food in airtight aluminum foil or polythene. Avoid contact between fresh and already frozen food. Lean foods store better and longer. Salt reduces storage life. Water ices consumed immediately from the freezer may cause freeze burn. Label packs with freezing dates.
  • Frozen Food Storage Tips: Ensure commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately stored by the retailer. Transfer frozen food from the store to the freezer as quickly as possible. Avoid frequent or prolonged door openings. Do not refreeze defrosted food. Do not exceed the storage period recommended by the food manufacturer.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: Before first use, clean the interior and accessories with lukewarm water and neutral soap, then dry thoroughly. For periodic cleaning, clean the inside and accessories with lukewarm water and neutral soap. Regularly check and wipe door seals. Rinse and dry thoroughly. If accessible, clean the condenser and compressor at the back with a brush to improve performance and save electricity.
  • Cleaning Air Channels: Remove the plinth (A) and ventilation grid (B). Clean the ventilation grid. Carefully pull out the air deflector (C), ensuring no defrost water remains. Clean the lower part of the appliance with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Defrosting the Refrigerator: Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator during normal use. Defrost water drains into a trough over the motor compressor, where it evaporates. Periodically clean the defrost water drain hole (F) under the salad drawers using the provided cleaner (P) to prevent water overflow.
  • Defrosting the Freezer: Defrost when the frost layer is about 3-5 mm thick. About 12 hours before defrosting, set a lower temperature to build up chill reserve. Switch off the appliance or unplug it. Remove stored food, wrap it in newspaper, and place it in a cool area. Leave the door open. To speed up defrosting, place a pot of warm water in the freezer compartment. Remove any ice pieces that break away. Once defrosted, dry the interior thoroughly. Switch on the appliance and reload food after three hours.
    • Caution: Never use sharp metal tools or mechanical devices to scrape off frost, as this can damage the evaporator.
  • Replacing the Lamp: The appliance is equipped with a long-life LED interior light. Use LED bulbs (E14 base) only, with the maximum power indicated on the lamp unit. Disconnect the plug from the mains socket. Remove the screw from the lamp cover with a screwdriver, detach the cover, replace the lamp with an identical one, reassemble the cover, tighten the screw, reconnect the plug, and check if the light switches on.
  • Closing the Door: Clean the door gaskets. Adjust the door if necessary (refer to assembly instructions). Replace defective door gaskets if needed by contacting an Authorized Service Centre.
  • Service: For repairs, contact an Authorized Service Centre and use original spare parts only.
  • Disposal: Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply, cut off and discard the mains cable. Remove the door to prevent children and pets from being trapped. The refrigerant circuit and insulation materials are ozone-friendly. The insulation foam contains flammable gas. Contact municipal authorities for correct disposal information. Do not damage the cooling unit near the heat exchanger. Recycle packaging materials and dispose of electrical and electronic appliances at local recycling facilities.
