Overview

The Zepcam T3 Live Bodycam is a robust and user-friendly device designed for recording and livestreaming video in various professional settings. It offers a comprehensive solution for capturing, managing, and storing video evidence, adhering to privacy laws and regulations. The bodycam is lightweight, ruggedized, and boasts a long battery life, making it suitable for extended use in demanding environments.

Function Description

The T3 Live Bodycam serves a dual purpose: on-device recording and real-time livestreaming.

  • On-device recording: The bodycam stores high-quality video locally, ensuring the best possible evidence capture. These recordings can later be offloaded to a central Zepcam server or cloud for review and management.
  • Livestreaming: Utilizing 4G/LTE mobile networks, the T3 Live Bodycam can stream video in real-time to the central Zepcam server or cloud. This livestreamed video, along with GPS location and metadata, can be viewed immediately via Zepcam Manager. The system incorporates an automatic bandwidth management feature that adjusts video bitrate based on network congestion, ensuring stream stability and low latency, even if the livestreamed video quality is lower than the on-device recording due to bandwidth limitations.

The T3 Live Bodycam integrates seamlessly with Zepcam Manager software, which is the central platform for managing all aspects of bodycam operation. This includes managing devices, users, settings, authorizations, viewing, sharing, and handling videos as legal evidence and actionable data.

Usage Features

The T3 Live Bodycam is designed for ease of use with clear indicators and intuitive controls.

Status Information

The bodycam features an LCD screen that displays crucial status information at a glance:

  • Wi-Fi Signal strength: Indicates the strength of the Wi-Fi connection.
  • Signal strength mobile network, or network connectivity: Shows the strength of the 4G/LTE mobile network connection.
  • LIVE Mode (On/Off): Clearly indicates whether livestreaming is active.
  • GPS (grey=no fix, green=fix): Shows the GPS status, with green indicating a successful fix.
  • Battery status: Displays the current battery level.
  • Recording and recording time: Shows if the device is recording and the duration of the current recording.
  • Local storage: Indicates the amount of storage used.
  • Date and time: Displays the current date and time.

LED for Status Notification

The bodycam also uses an LED indicator for quick status updates:

  • Off: The device is powered off.
  • Green: The device is powered on and in standby mode.
  • Green flashing: The device is charging.
  • Red: The device is recording, and streaming if LIVE mode is active.

Start/Stop On-Device Recording

  • To start recording: A short press of the Start/Stop button initiates recording. The user is notified by a red LED, a short beep, two short vibrations, and a red blinking dot with recording time on the LCD screen.
  • To stop recording: Press and hold the Start/Stop button for two seconds. The user is notified by a green LED, a short beep, and two long vibrations. Recordings are stored on the device and can only be offloaded via a Zepcam T3 Docking Station.

LIVE Mode

The LIVE mode allows for real-time livestreaming.

  • Activation: A short press of the LIVE Mode button activates livestreaming. The user is notified by a single short beep, a short vibration, and the LIVE icon appearing on the LCD screen.
  • Deactivation: Press and hold the LIVE Mode button for two seconds to deactivate livestreaming. The user is notified by a single short beep, a long vibration, and the LIVE icon disappearing from the LCD screen.
  • The LIVE mode button operates independently of the Start/Stop button. When LIVE mode is on and recording starts, video is simultaneously recorded on the device and livestreamed. If LIVE mode is off, only on-device recording occurs.

Wearing the T3 Live Bodycam

The bodycam comes with various fixing types to accommodate different uniforms. The most common and recommended placement is on the chest, optimizing the field of view, comfort, and ensuring it does not hinder motion or fall off. To attach, insert the bodycam into the mount lock until it clicks securely. To release, hold the bodycam firmly, twist it 180 degrees (upside down), and push it upwards.

T3 Minicamera

The T3 Minicamera is an external camera designed for discrete use, such as on a helmet or light clothing. It is controlled by the T3 Live Bodycam's buttons and does not have a built-in microphone; the bodycam's microphone remains active.

  • Connection: Ensure the T3 Live Bodycam is switched off. Remove the rubber lid using a Torx screwdriver, place the O-ring on the USB-C connector, insert the Minicamera's connector into the bodycam's USB-C port, and re-secure the rubber lid with screws.
  • Usage: Once connected and the bodycam is in standby, the T3 Live Bodycam will exclusively use the Minicamera's sensor. To revert to the bodycam's sensor, disconnect the Minicamera while the bodycam is off, then power the bodycam back on.
  • Minicamera LED: Shows green when the bodycam is on and in standby, and red when recording.
  • Low-light conditions: The bodycam automatically switches video settings to Black & White, and the built-in infrared illuminator activates for additional scene lighting.

Maintenance Features

Getting Started

Before initial use, it is crucial to fully charge the battery, as it is not fully charged for storage. The T3 Live Bodycam must be initialized and configured with Zepcam Manager according to user or organizational requirements. This includes verifying user ID, device profile, and mobile telecom provider data connection settings (APN). If APN settings are incorrect, they should be adjusted via Zepcam Manager.

Putting the SIM Card into the T3 Live

The nano-SIM card must be activated and free of a PIN code.

  1. Switch off the T3 Live Bodycam.
  2. Remove the rubber lid screw with a Torx screwdriver and manually remove the lid.
  3. Insert the SIM card into the correct position until it clicks into place.
  4. Replace the rubber lid and screws, ensuring it is properly sealed to maintain IP68 waterproof condition.
  5. Power on the bodycam; it should now connect to the server via 4G/LTE.
  6. Verify 4G/LTE connection on the LCD display and confirm the bodycam is listed in the Live page of Zepcam Manager. If not, contact support.
  7. Zepcam recommends field testing to ensure all settings are correct.

Charge the Battery

The T3 Live Bodycam battery can be recharged using a USB-C Connector or a T3 Single/Multi Docking Station. Full battery recharge is advised for optimal performance.

  • Using a T3 Docking Station (Single/Multi):

    1. Ensure the bodycam LED is green (standby mode) or stop recording.
    2. Place the bodycam securely in the docking station.
    3. Verify the LED is flashing green and the LCD shows recharging status.
    4. The battery is fully charged when the green LED stops flashing and the battery indicator is full.
    5. If connected to the network, the docking station will automatically offload recorded videos and update settings/firmware after recharging. The bodycam will restart and return to standby mode after updates.
  • Using the USB-C Connector:

    1. Flip aside the rubber lid.
    2. Connect the USB-C cable to the bodycam and then to a USB wall charger or power bank (original Zepcam charger recommended).
    3. Verify the LED is green flashing and the LCD shows recharging status.
    4. The battery is fully charged when the green LED stops flashing and the battery indicator is full. Note: The T3 Live Bodycam will not offload data or update settings/firmware via the USB-C port.

Storage

To prevent battery depletion during long periods of unused storage, it is recommended to charge the battery to approximately 50 percent.

Offload Recorded Bodycam Videos

The T3 Live Bodycam requires a T3 Single or Multi Docking Station with an Ethernet connection to the Zepcam Server or Cloud to offload recorded data (video, audio, GPS, metadata).

  1. Ensure the bodycam is not recording and the LED is green.
  2. Place the bodycam securely in the docking station.
  3. The LCD display should show an "E-sign" indicating proper connection to the server. If not, contact IT support.
  4. The bodycam will automatically begin offloading data, with progress shown on the LCD screen.
  5. After offloading, the bodycam will continue charging.
  6. Firmware updates or new bodycam settings will be automatically uploaded. The process ends with two short vibrations, a restart, and the bodycam returning to standby mode. Once data is completely offloaded and verified for completeness and integrity by the Zepcam system, all recorded video will be permanently deleted from the bodycam's internal storage.
