Overview

The Zerio Plus EDA-Z5008, Z5020 & Z5100 are radio control panels designed for fire detection systems, compliant with EN54 parts 2 and 4. These panels are manufactured by Electro-Detectors Limited.

Function Description

The Zerio Plus control panels serve as the central hub for a wireless fire detection system. They are capable of monitoring a specified number of zones and devices, receiving signals from various radio-enabled fire detection components (such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, sounders, callpoints, and I/O units), and initiating alarms or other programmed actions in response to fire conditions or faults. The system supports both standard and HMO (Houses in Multiple Occupation) configurations, with the HMO setup designed to minimize disruption in multi-occupancy buildings by allowing local silencing of alerts.

The panels feature a user-friendly interface with an LCD display, navigation keys, and dedicated buttons for common operations like silencing alarms, silencing the buzzer, and resetting the system. Access to various functions is controlled by multiple access levels, ranging from untrained users (Level 1) to commissioning engineers (Level 3B) and manufacturers (Level 4), each requiring a 4-digit code.

Key functionalities include:

  • Alarm and Fault Indication: Visual (LEDs, LCD text) and audible (buzzer, sounders) indications for fire alarms and system faults, with detailed information on the fault/alarm location and type.
  • Device Programming: Wireless programming of devices, including setting device options and location text.
  • System Configuration: Extensive setup options for zones, relays, tones, inputs, and network settings.
  • Event Log: Stores up to 1000 events, providing a historical record of system activity.
  • Test Modes: Allows for testing of zones, lamps, buzzers, and system components.
  • Disable/Enable Functions: Ability to disable or enable zones, devices, panel inputs, sounders, and relays for maintenance or specific operational requirements.
  • Verify Table: Provides detailed information on device communication, signal strength (RSSI), battery levels, and contamination levels for detectors, crucial for system performance monitoring and maintenance.
  • Hardware Management: Supports adding and removing antennas, repeater/booster panels, and pagers.
  • SIM Operations: Allows saving and loading system settings to/from a memory card.
  • Panel Network: Supports networking with booster panels to extend radio coverage.

  • Radio Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI): Provides real-time feedback on device signal strength, aiding in optimal device placement and troubleshooting.
  • Battery Voltage Monitoring: Displays battery voltage for both the panel and individual devices, facilitating proactive maintenance.
  • Detector Contamination Level: For smoke detectors, the panel can display the level of contamination, indicating when cleaning or replacement might be needed.
  • Auto Assignment: Automatically assigns devices to the panel or antenna with the strongest signal, simplifying installation and optimizing radio performance.

Maintenance Features

  • Daily Actions: Check for normal operation and record any faults.
  • Weekly Actions: Test at least one callpoint or detector, verify zone indication, sounder activation, and perform a lamps test.
  • Quarterly Actions: Test at least 25% of detectors and 100% of callpoints (varying devices each quarter), check panel battery and relay/input connections, visual inspection, and lamps test.
  • Annual Actions: Perform a complete walk test, test and replace panel battery if necessary, dump and analyze verify table and panel table data, visual inspection, and lamps test.
  • Battery Management: The panel charges batteries above 10.5V. Batteries below this voltage are considered faulty and will not be charged, requiring reconditioning or replacement. Only Yuasa NP7-12 batteries are approved for EN54 compliant systems, offering 3-5 years expected life at 20°C ambient temperature and 72-hour standby.
