2. Preparation

 Immerse the applicator in a non-irritant disinfectant solution recommended

for use with animals.

 Clean the vulval lips with paper towel

 Dip applicator into lubricant and ensure a generous amount of lubricant is

applied

3. Insertion

 Part the lips of the vulva with one hand and insert the loaded applicator with

the tail curling downwards

 Point the tip of the applicator slightly upwards and gently insert through the

vulva

 Once inserted halfway and some resistance is felt, re-angle the CIDR

Sheep and Goat Device horizontally and pass it over the pelvic bone. The

insertion technique can be thought of as “up and over”.

 Gently squeeze the plunger to release the CIDR

 Twist the applicator slightly and remove gently.

 The CIDR

Sheep and Goat Device should now be in place with the blue tail

protruding out and downwards. Cut the tail of the CIDR

Device to approximately 5cm (2 inches). This will help in preventing

inquisitive sheep pulling the Device out.

 Clean, disinfect and re-load the applicator

4. Removal

 Wearing gloves, gently remove the Device by pulling downwards on the tail

 Dispose of the used CIDR
