  If your Zoom Modem doesn't automatically dial when you send a dial command, ensure the modem speaker is on so you can hear dialing sounds. Also, verify the phone line is plugged in and you're dialing a valid number with any necessary prefixes. If using tone dialing on a pulse line, switch to pulse dialing in your software or use the ATDP prefix. Ensure your software and modem use the same COM port, and that the modem isn't still connected to a previous call. You can disconnect by selecting Hang Up in your software or typing ATH in terminal mode.

Also, ensure the communications software is configured for the same COM port as your modem. Make sure the modem is not in data mode when you type the command. Verify that E0 and Q1 commands are not in effect, disabling echo and responses, using the &V command. To enable echo and responses, type ATE1Q0 and press Enter.
