Overview

The ZTE CruiseConnect™ is an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD II) device designed to provide vehicle connectivity and monitoring features, powered by Modus® application. This Quick Start Guide outlines its appearance, indicator lights, installation, activation, and Wi-Fi service usage.

Function Description:

The ZTE CruiseConnect™ device serves as a vehicle telematics unit, plugging into a car's OBD II port to provide various functionalities. It enables monitoring of driving events, such as harsh driving and speeding, and offers Wi-Fi connectivity within the vehicle. The device is designed to work in conjunction with the "CruiseConnect" mobile application, available on iTunes and Google Play, which allows users to manage and view vehicle information. It utilizes 4G LTE network for data transfer, ensuring that driving and vehicle information is updated in the app. The device also includes an internal battery, which can be charged by the vehicle's battery once plugged into the OBD II port.

Important Technical Specifications:

The device features several key components for its operation. It includes a micro-SIM card slot, indicating its reliance on cellular networks for data transmission. Two LED indicators, LED 1 (Power) and LED 2 (Signal), provide visual feedback on the device's status. LED 1 indicates power status: green blinking for internal battery power, and green solid for power from the vehicle battery. A red solid LED 1 indicates the device is on but not registered. LED 2 indicates signal status: green solid for registration to the 4G network, and green blinking when connected to the 4G LTE network and data is being transferred. The device also has a reset hole and a restart key for maintenance and troubleshooting. The charging temperature for the device should be lower than 45°C. The Wi-Fi SSID and password information are typically located on a reference card in the device box, or on a label on the device itself.

Usage Features:

To use the ZTE CruiseConnect™ device, users first need to install a micro-SIM card. This involves using a tray eject tool to access the card tray, placing the micro-SIM card into it, and then reinserting the tray. It is crucial to use a standard micro-SIM card to avoid damaging the device. Once the SIM card is installed, the device is plugged into the vehicle's OBD II port, which is usually found under the driver's dash side, within 18 inches of the steering wheel. After installation, the vehicle's engine must be started to activate the device. Activation is confirmed when LED 2 turns green, indicating successful connection.

The "CruiseConnect" app is central to the device's functionality. Users download the app, create an account by providing their name, cell number, and email address, and then verify their phone number with a 6-digit authorization code sent via SMS. The device is then connected to the app by scanning a QR code located on a reference card. The system attempts to connect to the device for about 90 seconds, and upon successful connection, a confirmation message appears in the app, allowing users to proceed.

For Wi-Fi service, users can find the device's network name (SSID) in their Wi-Fi device's list of available wireless networks. After selecting the correct SSID, they input the password (found on the device label or reference card) to connect. This provides in-car Wi-Fi connectivity.

Maintenance Features:

The device includes a reset hole and a restart key, which can be used for troubleshooting or to reset the device if necessary. The LED indicators are a key maintenance feature, providing immediate visual cues about the device's power and network status, helping users diagnose potential issues. For instance, a red solid LED 1 indicates a registration issue, while a green blinking LED 2 confirms active data transfer. Users are advised to refer to the vehicle's manual if they have trouble locating the OBD II port. The device is designed for easy plug-and-play installation, minimizing complex maintenance procedures. For further support and information, users can visit the ZTE official website (www.zteusa.com). The manual also contains a warning regarding chemicals known to the State of California, indicating a need for awareness regarding potential health risks.
