What to do for open igniter circuit in A.O. Smith GPD-40?
- CCaitlin HouseSep 8, 2025
If the gas control valve/thermostat on your A.O. Smith Water Heater has detected an open igniter circuit, check the wiring to the hot surface igniter assembly and replace the igniter assembly if the wiring is damaged or worn. Check the resistance of the igniter at the igniter assembly plug (it should be between 11 and 18 ohms at room temperature). Replace the igniter if it's open or shorted. Also, check the igniter assembly plug and the socket on the gas control valve/thermostat for a good connection, replacing the igniter assembly if the plug is worn or damaged, or replacing the gas control valve/thermostat if the igniter assembly socket is worn or damaged.
