11. Selecting the location
11.1 Factors influencing performance
The smoke alarm device can do 3 things:
 Detect smoke
 Generate an alarm if it has detected smoke
 Transmit a radio signal to the receiver if it has detected smoke.
Warning
The environmental conditions around the detector can influence all 3 factors.
Smoke detection
The device is an optical smoke alarm device which works using the scattered light principle. This principle
is most frequently used in smoke detection.
