Overview

This document is a user manual for the AEG FFB53600ZW and FFB53600ZM dishwashers, providing comprehensive instructions for their safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The AEG dishwasher is designed for household use to clean crockery, cutlery, pots, and pans. It features a water softener system that removes minerals from the water supply, which helps prevent negative effects on washing results and the appliance itself. The water softener level can be adjusted based on the local water hardness. The appliance also includes a rinse aid dispenser to improve drying performance and prevent streaks and stains on dishes. Detergent is dispensed automatically during the wash cycle.

Several programmes are available to suit different types and degrees of soil, including:

  • ECO: A standard programme for normally soiled crockery and cutlery, optimized for efficient water and energy consumption.
  • AUTO: Automatically adjusts temperature, water quantity, energy consumption, and programme duration based on the degree of soil and load size for all types of crockery, cutlery, pots, and pans.
  • 30MIN: A quick programme suitable for lightly or half-loaded items with fresh soil.
  • Heavy soil programme: For heavily soiled crockery, cutlery, pots, and pans.
  • Delicate programme: For normal or light soil on delicate crockery and glassware.

The appliance incorporates an Auto Off function to reduce energy consumption by automatically deactivating when not in use (5 minutes after a programme is complete or if a programme was not started).

Usage Features

The dishwasher offers several features to enhance user convenience and washing results:

  • Control Panel: Equipped with an on/off button, programme button, programme indicators, a display, delay button, option button, indicators, and a start button. Indicators show the washing, rinsing, drying, and end phases, as well as TimeSaver, XtraDry, Delay, rinse aid, and salt status. A door indicator shows if the door is open or not correctly closed.
  • Programme Selection Mode: Allows users to select a programme and enter user mode to adjust settings.
  • User Mode Settings:
    • Water Softener Level: Adjustable according to water hardness to ensure optimal washing results and prevent limescale. The appliance stores saved settings, so it doesn't need to be configured before every cycle.
    • Rinse Aid Empty Notification: Can be activated or deactivated. While rinse aid is recommended for best drying, this notification can be turned off if multi-tablets are used and drying results are satisfactory.
    • AirDry: Automatically opens the appliance door during the drying phase to improve drying results with less energy consumption. This feature is automatically activated for most programmes but can be deactivated if desired, especially if children have access to the appliance.
  • Options:
    • TimeSaver: Increases water pressure and temperature, shortening washing and drying phases by approximately 50%. Washing results remain similar, but drying results may decrease.
    • XtraDry: Boosts drying performance. It is a permanent option for all programmes except ECO and does not need to be selected every cycle. Activating XtraDry deactivates TimeSaver and vice versa.
  • Delay Start: Allows users to set a desired delay time (1 to 24 hours) before a programme starts.
  • Loading Baskets: Instructions are provided for proper loading to ensure optimal cleaning. Hollow items should be placed with openings facing down, and items should not touch or cover each other to allow water to reach all surfaces.
  • Detergent Usage: Users are advised to use dishwasher-specific detergent, salt, and rinse aid. Multi-tablets can also be used, but for hard water, separate use of salt, rinse aid, and plain detergent is recommended. The correct quantity of detergent should always be used, adjusted for water hardness.
  • Opening the Door During Operation: Opening the door temporarily stops the appliance. It resumes from the point of interruption after closing. However, if the door is opened for more than 30 seconds during the drying phase (unless by AirDry), the programme ends.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's performance and longevity:

  • Filter Cleaning: The filter system, consisting of three parts, should be regularly checked and cleaned to prevent poor washing results and damage. Instructions are provided for disassembling, washing, and reassembling the filters.
  • Spray Arm Cleaning: If the holes in the spray arms become clogged, they should be cleaned with a thin pointed object.
  • External Cleaning: The appliance exterior should be cleaned with a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents. Abrasive products, cleaning pads, or solvents should not be used.
  • Internal Cleaning: The appliance interior, including the rubber gasket of the door, should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. Running long-duration programmes at least twice a month is recommended to prevent grease and limescale deposits, especially if short programmes are frequently used. A specific dishwasher cleaning product can also be used monthly.
  • Foreign Object Removal: After each use, users should check the filters and sump for foreign objects (e.g., glass, plastic, bones, toothpicks) that could decrease cleaning performance or damage the drain pump. Instructions are provided for safe removal.
  • Salt Container Refill: The salt container should be refilled when the salt indicator is on. Rough salt designed for dishwashers should be used to recharge the resin in the water softener.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser Refill: The rinse aid dispenser should be filled when the rinse aid indicator is on, up to the "MAX" marking. Spilled rinse aid should be wiped away to prevent excessive foam.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting section helps users identify and resolve common problems, including alarm codes, issues with programme start, water filling/draining, leaks, and unsatisfactory washing/drying results. It advises contacting an Authorised Service Centre for problems not described or if issues persist.
