The AEG cooker hood is designed for domestic use above hobs, cookers, and similar cooking devices to extract smoke and steam from the cooking area. It operates with multiple speed levels, including a maximum speed setting, and features a timer function. The appliance also includes lighting to illuminate the cooking surface. A unique "Hob²Hood" function allows for automatic communication between the hob and the hood, where the fan speed is adjusted based on the hob's mode setting and the temperature of the hottest cookware. This function can also be manually overridden from the hob's control panel.
The cooker hood is operated via a sensor-based control panel. To activate the appliance, the glass panel with control symbols must be opened, and the "First speed / Off" symbol touched for at least one second. Subsequent touches of this symbol will turn the appliance off. Different symbols correspond to various motor speeds: "Second speed" and "Third speed" for increased extraction power, and "Maximum speed" for the highest level, which automatically reverts to the third speed after five minutes.
The "Timer" function allows the appliance to operate for five minutes before automatically turning off. This feature is available for the first three motor speeds and can be deactivated by touching the timer symbol again. The lighting function is activated and deactivated by touching the dedicated light symbol.
For optimal performance, it is recommended to operate the hood for approximately 15 minutes before and after cooking. The manual provides a guide for selecting the appropriate speed based on cooking activity:
The "Hob²Hood" function enhances user convenience by automatically managing the hood's fan speed. When the connection between the hob and hood is established, a LED lamp on the hood switches on. The element underneath the hood acts as a signal receiver for this function.
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the appliance's longevity and safe operation. The manual emphasizes the importance of cleaning the appliance regularly with a soft cloth, warm water, and a mild detergent to prevent surface deterioration. Abrasive detergents, brushes, steam cleaners, water sprays, harsh abrasive cleaners, or sharp metal scrapers should not be used.
The grease filters require regular cleaning, ideally every two months, to remove fat deposits and prevent fire risks. Grease filters are washable and can be cleaned in a dishwasher on a low-temperature, short cycle without rinse aids or other dishes. The manual provides detailed steps for removing and reinstalling the grease filters: pull the handle, slightly tilt the front of the filter down, and then pull it out.
The charcoal filter, if present, also needs regular cleaning or replacement, approximately every two months, depending on cooking type and grease filter cleaning regularity. Washable charcoal filters can be cleaned or regenerated. To remove the charcoal filter, first remove the grease filters, then press the mounting clip handle on the filter panel, slightly tilt the filter downwards, and pull it out. The filter bed can be washed in hot water without detergent or in a dishwasher (without rinse aids or other dishes) and then dried, potentially in an oven at a maximum of 60°C.
The appliance includes a "Filter notification" system that reminds the user to clean or replace filters. After 40 hours of use, the grease filter symbol turns on for 30 seconds, indicating the need for cleaning. After 160 hours, the charcoal filter symbol flashes for 30 seconds, signaling that both the grease filter needs cleaning and the charcoal filter needs replacement or cleaning. The function can be reset by touching the timer symbol for three seconds.
A "Cleaning mode" is available, which temporarily blocks the control panel's functionality for five minutes, preventing accidental changes during cleaning. This mode is activated by touching and holding the "First speed / Off" and timer symbols for three seconds, and deactivated by repeating the action. The Hob²Hood function is disabled when cleaning mode is active.
The LED lamp and separate control gear (LED driver) are replaceable by a technician in case of malfunction.
