Overview

This document is a user manual for an AEG hob, providing comprehensive information on its installation, operation, maintenance, and safety.

The AEG hob is a cooking appliance designed for domestic use, featuring multiple gas burners for various cooking needs. It is built for efficiency and ease of use, aiming to provide impeccable performance for many years. The appliance is designed to be installed as a built-in hob in a kitchen worktop.

Function Description

The primary function of the AEG hob is to provide a versatile cooking surface using gas burners. It includes different types of burners to accommodate various cooking requirements:

  • Semi-rapid burners: These are standard burners suitable for general cooking tasks.
  • Triple Crown burner: This burner offers higher power, ideal for rapid heating or large cookware.
  • Auxiliary burner: A smaller burner designed for simmering or heating smaller pots.

Each burner is controlled by a dedicated control knob, allowing users to adjust the flame intensity from minimum to maximum gas supply, and to turn the burner off. The hob is equipped with an ignition system, typically a ceramic ignition candle with a metal electrode, for easy lighting of the burners. A thermocouple is integrated into each burner to ensure safety by interrupting the gas supply if the flame accidentally goes out. The hob also features progressive valves for more precise flame regulation.

Usage Features

The hob offers several features to enhance the cooking experience and ensure user safety:

  • Ignition: To light a burner, the user pushes the control knob down and turns it counterclockwise to the maximum gas supply position. The knob must be held down for a short period (equal to or less than 10 seconds) to allow the thermocouple to warm up and prevent the gas supply from being interrupted. Once the flame is regular, it can be adjusted.
  • Flame Adjustment: The control knobs allow for precise adjustment of the flame intensity, from a strong flame for rapid cooking to a gentle simmer.
  • Cookware Compatibility: Users are advised to use stable cookware with appropriate shapes and diameters that match the size of the burners. Cookware should be centrally positioned on the burners for maximum stability and efficient gas consumption.
  • Safety Precautions during Use:
    • Always light the burner before placing cookware on it.
    • Do not leave the appliance unattended during operation.
    • Turn the cooking zone to "off" after each use.
    • Avoid placing cutlery or saucepan lids on hot cooking zones.
    • Do not operate the appliance with wet hands.
    • Be cautious when cooking with fats and oils, as they can release flammable vapours. Never try to extinguish a fat/oil fire with water; instead, switch off the appliance and cover the flame.
    • Ensure adequate ventilation in the room where the appliance is installed, especially during prolonged intensive use.
    • Avoid using the hob as a work surface or storage area.
    • Do not activate cooking zones with empty cookware.
    • Do not place aluminium foil on the appliance.
    • Ensure pot handles are not positioned above the front edge of the cooktop to prevent accidents.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and periodic maintenance are crucial for the hob's longevity and optimal performance:

  • General Cleaning:
    • The hob should be cleaned after each use.
    • Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.
    • Disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply before maintenance.
    • Use a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents. Avoid abrasive products, solvents, or metal objects.
    • Immediately remove melted plastic, sugar, or food with sugar to prevent damage to the hob surface.
    • For limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and metallic discoloration, clean when the hob is sufficiently cool using a moist cloth and non-abrasive detergent.
  • Cleaning Enamelled Parts, Caps, and Crowns: These components should be washed with warm soapy water and dried carefully before reassembly.
  • Cleaning Pan Supports: Pan supports are not dishwasher-safe and must be washed by hand. Stubborn stains can be removed with a paste cleaner. After cleaning, ensure they are correctly positioned and aligned with the centre of the burner for proper operation.
  • Cleaning the Spark Plug: The ceramic ignition candle and metal electrode should be kept clean to prevent difficult lighting. Ensure burner crown holes are not obstructed.
  • Stainless Steel Parts: Wash with water and dry with a soft cloth. For stubborn stains, soak them in mild detergent. Use cleaning products specifically designed for stainless steel to protect the surfaces. Avoid corrosive chemicals like chlorides.
  • Periodic Maintenance: It is recommended to contact an Authorised Service Centre periodically to check the condition of the gas supply pipe and the pressure adjuster (if fitted).

The manual also provides detailed instructions for installation, including electrical and gas connections, injector replacement, and adjustment of the minimum flame level, emphasizing that these tasks should only be performed by qualified professionals to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
