Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the Aiwa Z-R500 Compact Disc Stereo System, a comprehensive audio system designed for various playback and recording functions.

Function Description:

The Z-R500 is a multi-component stereo system that includes a compact disc player, a stereo cassette receiver, and a stereo turntable. It offers a range of audio functionalities:

  • CD Playing: The system features a multi-disc CD changer, allowing for playback of multiple CDs without interruption. It supports basic playback, programmed play (up to 30 tracks), random play, and repeat play. A unique feature is the ability to replace discs during playback without interrupting the current track.
  • Radio Reception: It includes an FM/MW/LW tuner with manual and auto-search tuning. Up to 32 preset stations can be stored across all bands. The system also offers a MONO TUNER function to reduce noise during FM stereo broadcasts.
  • Tape Playback and Recording: The stereo cassette receiver features two decks, enabling continuous play between tapes and tape-to-tape recording. It supports Type I (normal), Type II (high/CrO2), and Type IV (metal) tapes for playback and Type I or Type II tapes for recording. Advanced recording features include AI Edit Recording, which automatically calculates track lengths to fit a tape side, and Programmed Edit Recording, allowing users to program tracks while checking remaining tape time.
  • Karaoke: The system supports microphone mixing with two microphone jacks and includes VOCAL FADER/MULTIPLEX functions to reduce or mute original vocals from discs or tapes, making it suitable for karaoke. It also features an ECHO effect with adjustable level and delay time. Karaoke programs allow reserving up to 15 tracks for playback.
  • Turntable: A stereo turntable (PX-E850) is included for vinyl record playback, connecting to the PHONO IN jacks.
  • Sound Adjustment: The system offers a SUPER T-BASS system for enhancing low-frequency sound and an Electronic Graphic Equalizer with five preset curves (ROCK, POP, JAZZ, CLASSIC, BGM) to tailor the sound to different preferences. A SURROUND SYSTEM with DSP (Digital Signal Processor) provides simulated surround sound effects (DISCO, LIVE, HALL) using internal front surround speakers.
  • Timer Functions: It includes a daily timer for automatic power on/off for playback or recording, and a sleep timer to automatically turn off the unit after a specified period.
  • External Connections: The unit provides VIDEO/AUX IN jacks for connecting external analog audio sources (LD player, VCR, TV) and a CD DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) jack for digital audio output to compatible equipment (digital amplifier, DAT deck, MD recorder). A SUPER WOOFER jack allows connection of an optional powered subwoofer.
