The
Super
Intelligent-H0
(Super
l-HQ) leature
AKAI was the first company
in
the
world
to develope and
pro-
vide
on a
VCFI the
unique 'lntelligentHQ"
feature which
achieves high
piclure
qualityfor
both recording and
playback.
The new "Super
lntelligent-HQ" technology which AKAI has
now developed includes the features of the
previous
"lntelli-
gent-HQ" (FHQ)
but achieves even
higher
picture quality.
The main advantages ofthe high
picture qualityachieved
with
"Super
Intelligent-HQ" are as follows:
First, a newly developed circuit achieves cleaner, clearer
pic-
tures with less
noise.
Second, togetherwith the newlydeveloped "PRO GX4
Head',
LP
(Long
Play)
picture quality
is
greatly
increased,
so
that the
high
picture quality
is almost as
good
as that ol Akai's SP
(Standard
Play)
picture quality,
an area
in which Akai has a
well-established reputation.
Furthermore, the new head
and
the new Super FHQ technoF
ogy
assure optimum recording regardless ol the characteris-
tics of individual tapes and head
wear
or other changes
over
time, thus maintaining the same high
picture
quality
over
the
years.
I-HQ
This technology for achieving
high
picture quality
in both rec-
ording and
playback,
centering on
an auto tape tuning system,
bringsoutthe
best in the superior
qualities
of
high-grade
and
S-VHS tapes,
providing
excellent
picture quality.
Newly developed circuit
The newly developed circuit
for the
"Super
IntelligentHQ"
leature achieves
high
picture quality
with less noise.
PRO
GX4
head
The
gap-depth
and track
width
of
the LP head have been op-
timized
and
the high range response
for recording and
play-
back
improved, thereby reducing edge
noise and crosstalk
and
providing
high
picture quality
in the LP mode.
During recording:
When
you press
the record
button
and the FHQ button the
Auto Tape Tuning
process
begins. This takes about
15
sec-
onds.
Thisoperation optimizes the tapes fullpolential, and the tapes
characteristics are stored
in the microprocessor's memory
untilthe tape is ejected, or the
power
supply is cutofftrom the
VCR.
During
playback:
When
you
play
back a
tape
using
the
Super
FHQ feature, it
automatically
adjusts
to the recorded condition olthelape and
optimizes noise cancellation and the
reproduction
of details.
This function
eliminates displacement
of colours in the vertF
cal direction
(called
"vertical
aberration") during
playback,
an
unavoidable Droblem
with
conventional
VHS VCRS for home
use.
This displacement
increases with
each copy,
resulting in an
unnatural
picture.
When copying from VCRS including
this
tunction, however,
there
is no
displacement
in the vertical di-
rection ofthese coloursignals, no matter how
many
copies are
maoe.
AKAI is the first
company
in the world to
provide
this technol-
ogy tor home VHS VCRs.
Note:
.
This VCFI is
perfectly
compatible
with l-HQ and non Super
l-HQ VCRs.
Please take care
when
choosing
yourtapesas
notalltapes
labeled
"High Grade"
are really high
grade
tapes.
lf
you
are
in doubt use
"S-VHS"
or
"PRO'tapes.
Also, as
even
tapes
made
by the same company
differ in characteristics
(be-
tween E-'180 and E-240 tor example) we
recommend the
use ol E- 180 tapes
for the very
best
results.
lf
a
tape is
damaged,
or faulty, the Auto Tape
Tuning
pro-
cess maytake alittle longer, as
itwill'read" the characteris-
tics once
more.
A tape recorded by S-VHS
format
(on
an S-VHS
VCR) can
not be
played
back on an
l-HQ VCR and vice versa, these
systems
are not interchangeable.
Although
you
can chooseto
have the Super l-HQ teature on
or off,
we recommend that it always be
left
on during
play-
back and recording.
