Usage Features:

The cultivators are equipped with various controls and features for ease of use and safety.

  • Handlebar Adjustment (MH770, MH1150): The handlebar height can be adjusted to hip height by loosening a clamping lever. It can also be adjusted sideways by up to 35° to either side to avoid walking on already cultivated ground.
  • Transport Wheel/Impellers: For MH540 and MH770, a transport wheel can be moved between transport and working positions. For MH1150, impellers are installed for transport and removed for cultivation, with cultivator blades installed instead.
  • Fueling: Fueling should always be done outdoors using a funnel to prevent spillage and ground contamination. The fuel tank should never be filled while the engine is running or hot.
  • Engine Start/Stop: The engine is started by opening the fuel cock, moving the choke lever (if cold), pressing the "ON" engine switch, setting the throttle lever to "H" (high), and pulling the starter cable briskly. To stop, set the throttle lever to "L" (low), press the "OFF" engine switch, and close the fuel cock.
  • Cultivator Blades Engagement: The cultivator blades are engaged by pressing and holding a safety button and firmly pressing the clutch lever downwards. They disengage when the clutch lever is released.
  • Reverse Gear (MH540): The MH540 model has a reverse gear, engaged by pulling the reverse gear lever up to the stop. It disengages when the lever is released.
  • Gear Shift (MH770, MH1150): These models feature two forward gears and one reverse gear. The first forward gear is for hard ground (slower blade rotation), and the second is for less hard ground (faster blade rotation). Gears are shifted by releasing the clutch lever, moving the gear lever to the desired position (1, 2, or R), pressing the safety button, and engaging the clutch lever.
  • Depth Skid: The depth skid helps control the cultivator's speed and cultivation depth. Pushing the handlebar down slows the cultivator and increases depth, while raising it increases speed.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the cultivator.

  • Cleaning Cultivator Blades: Before and after each use, long fibrous plant matter and large clods of earth should be removed from the cultivator blades.
  • Gearbox Oil Check/Change (MH770, MH1150): The gearbox oil level should be checked before each use and topped up if necessary. The gearbox oil should be changed every 100 operating hours. The oil should be visible at the filler opening.
  • Spark Plug Maintenance: Detailed instructions for spark plug maintenance are provided in the separate engine operating manual.
  • Air Filter Maintenance: Detailed instructions for air filter maintenance are provided in the separate engine operating manual.
  • Engine Oil Change: Detailed instructions for engine oil change are provided in the separate engine operating manual.
  • Bowden Cable Adjustment: Fine adjustment of the Bowden cables (for clutch and throttle) is done using adjusting screws on the handlebar and engine console. The cultivator blades should only start rotating after the lever has traveled halfway.

Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Always read and follow all safety instructions and operating manuals.
  • Never operate the cultivator indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety glasses, long trousers, sturdy shoes, and protective gloves.
  • Ensure all safety and protective devices are present and functional; never disable them.
  • Do not operate the appliance under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
  • Maintain a safe distance from people and animals, and switch off the appliance if they approach.
  • Never reach into rotating parts.
  • Perform all maintenance work with the engine switched off.
  • Use only approved original spare parts for repairs.

This comprehensive guide ensures users can safely and effectively operate and maintain their AL-KO motor cultivators.
