First,
mark
the beginning
and end
of the
buttonhole
on
fabric
with a
basting
line or
tailor's
chalk.
Make
one on
scrap fabric
(following
directions
below)
to
be sure
machine
adjustments
are
correct.
1. Replace
presser
foot
with
buttonhole
foot
which
is grooved
deeply
underneath
to
prevent
piling up
of thread.

Fig. 27)
2. Lock
the
stitch width
at
2 and set
the stitch
length
near
0.
3. Lower
needle
carefully
into
the mark
on fabric
indicating
the
beginning
of
buttonhole.

mark

buttonhole,

the presser
foot
and using
the needle
as
a pivot,

Cut the
buttonhole
opening
with the
special
tool provided
being
careful
not
to cut the
stitching.
If
you wish
to make
bottonholes
on
sheer
or soft material,
place thin
paper
under
the fabric
which
can be
torn away
after
stitching.
It is always
advisable
to make
several
buttonholes
on
spare fabric
before
working
on
the actual
garment

narrower
buttonholes,
set the
stitch width
at IA/
and move
stitch
width
lever to
3 for bar
