This instruction explains the procedure to adjust and calibrate the controls on the
DL/DM, DLB/DMB, D2000A, D3000A, D4000A, D2000B, D3000B, D4000B, and DT80
Series derricks. The procedure requires the following items in addition to normal
mechanics tools:
• Quick disconnect installed in the return line of the control valve
(Altec kit p/n 970457959, if required)
• Electronic Low pressure gauge (0-600 psi or 0-1000 psi range)
• CADI
• Infrared (IR) thermometer
There are three sections to the procedure: Section 1: Differential Pilot Pressure Testing
and Adjustment Procedure, Section 2: Threshold Calibration Procedure, and Section
3:Max Out and Low Speed Calibration. Read and understand all steps of the instruc-
tions before beginning the procedure.
1. Position the unit on a level surface. Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels.
Engage the unit’s hydraulic system. Properly set the outriggers. Disengage the
hydraulic system and shut off the engine.

2. Remove the turntable cover from the right side of the turntable (as viewed from the
boom tip looking toward the turntable).
3. Attach the pressure gauge to the tank pressure quick disconnect. Depending on
the design of the valve, this quick disconnect will be located either on the large tee
in the return line located to the left of the lower control valve (refer to Figure 1) or on
the small tee in the external pilot drain port located in the upper left corner of the
lower control valve (refer to Figure 2). Turn the gauge on, and zero it if it is not
showing zero.

Sections of Procedure

Section 1: Differential Pilot Pressure Testing and Adjustment Procedure

Attach Pressure Gauge to Tank Pressure Quick Disconnect

Attach pressure gauge to the quick disconnect in the return line or pilot drain port.

Energize Pilot System and Record Tank Pressure

Energize pilot system at idle, record tank pressure, and then move gauge to pilot disconnect.

Verify Pilot Pressure within Calculated Range

Energize pilot system and check if pressure gauge indicates within the calculated range.

Complete Section 1 Testing

Disengage hydraulics, turn off engine, disconnect gauge, and replace cover.

Section 1 Adjustment

Adjust Pilot Pressure Reducing Cartridge

Loosen jam nut, turn adjusting screw to set pressure, and tighten jam nut.

Test and Repeat Adjustment

Test pressure at pilot quick disconnect and repeat adjustment until within range.

Complete Section 1 Adjustment

Replace cap, disengage PTO, turn off engine, and secure unit.

Section 2: Threshold Calibration Procedure

Warm Hydraulic Oil to Calibration Temperature

Warm hydraulic oil to 120-130°F using IR thermometer for accurate CADI calibration.

Warm Oil for Digger Units

Warm oil for digger units by operating Digger Dig; stow digger when oil reaches temperature.

Warm Oil for Non-Digger Units

Warm oil for non-digger units by operating Winch Raise/Lower; proceed when oil reaches temperature.

Connect CADI to Connection Socket

Connect the CADI unit to the connection socket using its cable.

Position Boom for Calibration

Position boom at 10-30 degrees above horizontal for calibration of all functions.

Set Control Panel and Engine Speed

Set low speed/standard switch to Standard and operate engine at full RPM for calibration.

Calibrate Function MX and TH Settings

Adjust MX and TH values for each function, starting with MX to initiate movement.

Record Final TH Settings and Reset MX

Record final TH setting and return MX setting to its original value.

Repeat Calibration for Each Function

Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each direction of each boom, winch, and digger function.

Section 3:Max Out and Low Speed Calibration

Perform Final Testing and Corrections

Engage hydraulics, operate all functions to check for leaks and proper operation.

Stow Unit and Return to Service

Stow the unit, retract outriggers, disengage hydraulics, and return to service.
