Overview

The Altronix eFlow104NK8QP and eFlow104NK8DQP are networkable dual-output power supply/chargers designed for various applications, including burglar alarm systems, fire alarm systems, and access control. These units convert a 120VAC 60Hz input into eight (8) fuse-protected (eFlow104NK8QP) or PTC-protected (eFlow104NK8DQP) 12VDC or 24VDC outputs, with a total power output of up to 240W (10A max). Each output can be individually selected for either 12VDC or 5VDC (up to 6A) or 24VDC (up to 10A). An unswitched auxiliary output is also provided.

Function Description:

The core function of these devices is to provide reliable and regulated DC power to connected equipment while also managing battery backup. They incorporate a built-in charger for sealed lead-acid or gel-type batteries, ensuring continuous power during AC failures. The dual-input design allows power to be steered from two independent low-voltage 12V or 24VDC Altronix power supplies to the eight individually controlled outputs.

A key feature is the integrated networkable power distribution module (LINQ8PD(CB)), which facilitates comprehensive monitoring, reporting, and control of the supervised DC power supply/charger over a network. This module reports diagnostics via email and Windows Dashboard Alert notifications, aiming to reduce system downtime and eliminate unnecessary service calls.

The units include a supervised Fire Alarm Disconnect feature, which can be configured as latching or non-latching, and operates with a 10K EOL resistor. This disconnect can be triggered by a normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) input. The LINQ8PD(CB) also offers FACP disconnect (latching or non-latching) and FACP reset capabilities.

Usage Features:

The eFlow104NK8QP and eFlow104NK8DQP offer a suite of features designed for enhanced system management and reliability:

  • Output Control: Each of the eight outputs can be independently controlled, allowing for flexible power distribution. Outputs can be set to an OFF position for servicing. Power output(s) can be controlled locally or remotely via the network interface.
  • Input Selection: Any of the eight fuse/PTC protected power outputs can be selected to follow either Power Input 1 or Power Input 2. The output voltage of each output will match the input voltage of the selected input.
  • Battery Backup: The built-in charger supports sealed lead-acid or gel-type batteries. In the event of an AC power failure, the unit automatically switches to standby battery power instantaneously, without interruption. A low power shutdown feature prevents deep battery discharge by shutting down DC output terminals if battery voltage drops below a specified threshold (71-73% for 12V units and 70-75% for 24V units).
  • Supervision: The units provide comprehensive supervision, including AC fail supervision (Form “C” contacts) and battery fail & presence supervision (Form “C” contacts).
  • Status Monitoring (via LINQ8PD(CB)): Users can monitor various parameters, including the power supply's output voltage and load, the voltage and load of each individual output, FACP trigger and reset status, unit temperature, power supply AC and battery status, and battery health.
  • Programming Features (via LINQ8PD(CB)): The network interface allows for extensive programming, such as setting power supply voltage and load limits (High/Low), configuring FACP trigger types (wet or dry - N.O./N.C.), defining input functions (FACP reset/tamper), setting output reset triggers (N.O./N.C.), and configuring battery monitoring (battery condition, service date). Individual output configurations include device ID, voltage and current limits, FACP trigger settings (latching/non-latching/inactive), and battery backup.
  • Network Security: The LINQ8PD(CB) supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) for secure network communication.
  • Visual Indicators: The eFlow104NB features Green AC and Red DC LEDs to indicate 120VAC presence and DC output, respectively. The LINQ8PD(CB) includes a Bat Local LED (indicating charging current status), an FACP LED (indicating FACP disconnect trigger), an Input LED (indicating input signal), and Out1-Out8 LEDs (indicating output status).
  • Fire Alarm Interface Options: The Fire Alarm Interface and Reset options are programmable via the web interface. FAI input trigger options include supervised normally closed (NC), normally open (NO), polarity reversal input from a signaling circuit, or wet input. Specific wiring instructions are provided for Normally Open (NO) input, Normally Closed (NC) input, Signaling Circuit/Wet input trigger, and Fire Alarm Reset.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the device.

  • Annual Testing: The unit should be tested at least once a year for proper operation.
  • Output Voltage Test: Under normal load conditions, the DC output voltage should be checked to ensure it is at the proper level (e.g., 24VDC nominal rated @ 10A max for eFlow104NB).
  • Battery Test: During normal load conditions, the battery should be fully charged, and the specified voltage (e.g., 24VDC @ 26.4V) should be checked at both the battery terminals and the board terminals marked [- BAT +] to confirm there is no break in the battery connection wires.
  • Battery Life: The expected battery life is 5 years; however, it is recommended to change batteries in 4 years or less if needed. The maximum charging current under discharge conditions is 1.54A.
  • Tamper Switch Installation: A UL Listed tamper switch (Altronix model TS112 or equivalent) can be mounted at the top of the enclosure. This switch can be connected to an Access Control Panel input or a UL Listed reporting device to activate an alarm signal when the enclosure door is opened.
