Do you have a question about the AMC XIA30t and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The AMC XIA30t and XIA50 are remote-controllable stereo integrated amplifiers designed to offer high-quality sound reproduction and comprehensive facilities in an innovative and elegant design.

Function Description:

These integrated amplifiers accept five inputs: Phono, CD, Tuner, Aux/USB, and Tape. They are compatible with both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. The amplifiers feature full tape monitoring capabilities and include a "Direct" switch that bypasses the tone control circuitry for improved sound quality. The XIA30t/XIA50 models are designed with an option for a USB connector, enabling networking to other equipment, computers, LANs, and the Internet. This USB linking system, designed within the AMC IA system, allows for CD-quality sound reproduction from computers and the Internet.

Usage Features:

  • Unique Phono Stage Design: Employs two audiophile-grade op-amps per channel for very low THD, TIM, and noise, with switchable MM/MC sensitivities.
  • High Overload Tone Control Stage: Can be completely bypassed with the DIRECT switch for natural sound quality.
  • Special Designed Passive Tone Control Circuit: Contributes to natural sound quality.
  • Audiophile Grade Components: Used throughout for exceptional accuracy in phono and tone control responses.
  • High Overload Margin: Provided on the tone control circuit due to its topologies.
  • Power Amplifiers: Feature 30 Amp high peak output current devices, capable of driving almost all types of speaker systems.
  • Perfect Virtual Image Topology: Allows for amplifier outputs to connect directly to speaker systems without output relays, offering the best possible sound quality.
  • Optimized Power Supply Designs: High output current devices are protected only by fuses on the power supply side to deliver extremely high output current when demanded.
  • Universal Power Transformer: Passed all international safety standards, allowing users to reset the AC select switch to the correct voltage for use in various countries (110-120V or 220-240V).
  • Heavy Duty Gold Plated Speaker Binding Posts and Phono Connectors: Ensure ultra-reliable connections.
  • Front Panel Controls:
    • Power Switch: Turns the amplifier on/off, with a blue indicator light. Always set volume to minimum before switching on.
    • Infrared Receiver: For remote control signals.
    • Balance Control: Adjusts relative levels of left and right channels. A detent at 12 o'clock marks equal balance.
    • Phones: 1/4" (6.35mm) stereo jack for headphones. Loudspeaker output is cut when headphones are in use.
    • Mute/Normal/Direct Switch:
      • "Mute" position cuts output to loudspeakers.
      • "Direct" position bypasses tone controls for improved sound quality.
      • "Normal" position engages tone controls.
    • Bass Control: Adjusts low frequencies. Flattest response at 12 o'clock.
    • Treble Control: Adjusts high frequencies. Flattest response at 12 o'clock.
    • Tape Monitor Switch: "Source" position routes selected input to loudspeakers/headphones. "Tape" position routes signal from tape recorder to loudspeakers/headphones, useful for A/B monitoring with three-head tape machines.
    • Input Selection Switch: Rotary switch to select Phono, CD, Tuner, or Aux/USB input. The selected signal is also fed to "Tape out" sockets for recording.
    • Volume Control: Adjusts overall loudness level without affecting tape recording levels. Designed for accurate tracking to maintain stereo balance.
  • Rear Panel Connections:
    • Phono Ground Terminal: For connecting turntable ground wire to eliminate interference and hum.
    • Phono MM/MC Input Selection Switch: Allows selection between Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. Move to the right for MM or high output MC, to the left for normal (low output) MC. Caution: Never operate this switch with volume turned up to avoid loudspeaker damage.
    • Phono Input (Option Coaxial In): For turntables.
    • Aux Input: For extra line-level sources like a second tuner, CD player, or video recorder. Parallel with the analog output of the USB connector.
    • Tuner Input: For AM/FM tuners.
    • CD Input: For CD players.
    • Tape Input & Tape Output: For cassette, reel-to-reel, or video recorders.
    • Pre Out/Main In: Pre-amplifier and power amplifier sections are connected by factory-installed U-shaped metal jumpers. These can be removed to connect a signal processor (e.g., surround-sound decoder, electronic crossover) between the preamp and power amp.
    • Loudspeaker Terminals: Accepts 4mm (banana) plugs, spade connectors, pin connectors, or bare wires. Designed for 4-8 ohm loudspeakers. Connect negative (black) to black terminal, positive (red) to red terminal for left and right channels.
    • AC Select Switch (115V or 230V): Must be set to match local mains supply voltage.
    • AC Receptacle: For plugging in the power cord.
    • USB (Option): For connecting to computers and other USB/LAN/Internet-enabled equipment.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fuses: Internal fuses protect the amplifier. Replacement should only be done by a competent engineer using correct types.
  • Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is crucial. Do not place the unit on soft surfaces that obstruct air inlets or outlets. The amplifier may become warm during normal operation, especially at high power. If it becomes too hot to touch, switch off and contact your dealer.
  • Cleaning: Clean the appliance only as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Non-Use Periods: Unplug the power cord from the outlet if unused for a long time.
  • Servicing: No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Grounding: The Phono Ground Terminal helps eliminate hum. Ensure turntable ground leads are firmly attached to the earth terminal. For CATV systems, the cable ground should be connected to the building's grounding system near the entry point.
  • Power Cord Protection: Route power cords to prevent them from being walked on or pinched.
