The blue wire is used for ignition detection. It is strongly recommended to connect this wire to ignition
key at “RUN” position as shown above.
An alternative to connecting to the ignition switch is to nd a non-permanent power source (like the
power source for FM radio) that is only available when the vehicle is running. Ignition signal can be
congured to start transmitting information to the backend server when ignition is on and to enter
power saving mode when ignition is o.

Overview

The AMERICALOC ST4340 is a GPS tracking device designed to provide real-time location data and various tracking features. It utilizes both GPS signals for location determination and mobile networks (LTE-M1) to transmit this data to Americaloc's servers.

Function Description:

The primary function of the AMERICALOC ST4340 is to track the location of a vehicle or asset. It continuously reads data from satellites to pinpoint its location and then uses a mobile network connection to send this information to a backend server. Users can access this location data through the Americaloc website or a dedicated mobile app ("Americaloc Viewer").

Key tracking features include:

  • Real-time Location Updates: The device updates its location at predefined intervals, typically one minute while moving. This interval can be configured by the user.
  • Historical Tracking: Users can view the past movements of the device by accessing the "History" tab, selecting specific date and time ranges, and viewing the path taken on a map.
  • Ignition Detection: When the blue wire is connected to the vehicle's ignition, the device can detect when the ignition is turned on or off. This allows for specific notifications (e.g., "Ignition On") and can be configured to enter power-saving mode when the ignition is off. An alternative to connecting to the ignition switch is to find a non-permanent power source that is only available when the vehicle is running.
  • Internal Memory: The device has internal memory to store locations in areas with poor mobile data coverage. This ensures that data is not lost and will be transmitted once the device reconnects to the network.
  • Notifications: Users can configure email or text message notifications for various events, such as ignition on/off.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Input: The device operates on a voltage range of 8V-32V.
  • Connectivity:
    • GPS: For location determination.
    • Mobile Network (LTE-M1): For data transmission to servers.
  • SIM Card: The device comes with a pre-installed SIM card that is specific to the device and should not be removed.
  • LED Indicators:
    • CEL (blue) LED: Indicates mobile network status.
      • 1 blink: Connected
      • 2 blinks: Server Communication Error
      • 3 blinks: LTE-M1 Communication Error
      • 4 blinks: No network
      • 5 blinks: SIM PIN Locked
      • 6 blinks: Cannot attach to Network
      • 7 blinks: No SIM
    • GPS (red) LED: Indicates GPS status.
      • 1 blink: Connected
      • 2 blinks: GPS chip is searching GPS info
      • 4 blinks: GPS Chipset Error or GPS Antenna Error
  • Wiring:
    • Vin (Red): Power input.
    • GND (Black): Ground.
    • IGN (Blue): Ignition detection.
  • Installation: Recommended to be installed under the front dashboard. Unused cables must be individually cut and covered with black/electrical tape to prevent short circuits.

Usage Features:

  • Account Activation: Users must activate their account and device online at www.americaloc.com by filling in required information, including the IMEI code found on the back of the device.
  • Service Plan Purchase: After activation, users need to purchase a service plan through the Americaloc website.
  • User Interface: Access to device location and settings is provided through the Americaloc website and the "Americaloc Viewer" mobile app (available on Google Play Store and App Store).
  • Device Settings: Users can configure various settings, including location update intervals (while in motion) and notification preferences (email/text messages).
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance on common issues such as "device not visible on website" (due to poor mobile network or GPS signal) and "location slightly off" (due to environmental factors).
  • Payment Management: Users are notified 10 days before service expiration and can renew their plan online. Automatic debits are not used.
  • International Use: If planning to use the unit outside the U.S., users must contact Americaloc support for configuration or a different SIM card.
  • Ignition Detection by Motion: If the ignition cable is not wired, Americaloc support can configure the unit to detect ignition by motion.

Maintenance Features:

  • Self-Contained Unit: The device comes with a pre-installed SIM card, eliminating the need for user installation or removal of the SIM.
  • Professional Installation Recommended: While not strictly a maintenance feature, professional installation helps ensure correct wiring and optimal performance, reducing the likelihood of issues that might require maintenance.
  • Environmental Considerations: Users are advised to avoid placing the device in very hot or humid places, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures, as these can damage the device, affect battery life, or cause signal degradation.
  • Customer Support: Americaloc emphasizes customer satisfaction and provides support via support@americaloc.com and a phone number (8558303390) for assistance with problems or questions. Video tutorials are also available on their YouTube channel.
