Chapter 2. PacketWave System Overview
WaveCenter Configuration Manager
The WaveCenter Configuration Manager (CM) is a Java-based application used to configure
PacketWave base station and subscriber equipment. It runs on any of the following plat-
forms:
Windows 98
Windows NT
Windows 2000 Professional
Linux
NOTE: The platform on which the WaveCenter Configuration Manager is run must
include the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). JRE is included on the WaveCenter
distribution CD.
The Configuration Manager is used to create individual Base Station Unit and Subscriber
Unit configuration files. These files are then stored on the system’s TFTP server, from
which they are downloaded automatically by Base Station Units and subscriber Indoor
Units as part of their boot-up processes.
The PacketWave Configuration Manager has two parts: a Base Station Unit (BSU)
Configuration Manager and a Subscriber Unit (SU) Configuration Manager. Each consists
of multiple menus which in combination allow full configuration of the PacketWave
System components.
A complete description of the Configuration Manager and its use is given in Chapters 6, 7,
and 8 of this manual.
Web GUI
For real-time monitoring and limited configuration of the Base Station Unit and all sub-
scriber equipment, the Base Station Unit and Subscriber Units support a graphical user
interface (GUI) accessible via the IP network using a standard Web browser (Netscape 4.74
or Internet Explorer 5.0). The Web GUI includes network views, configuration tables, status
reports, performance statistics, event logs, and control utilities.
Some configuration changes can be made via the Web GUI. If desired, these configuration
changes can be made permanent by uploading them to the appropriate configuration file
on the TFTP server. (If configuration changes are made via the Web GUI but not uploaded,
they will be lost when the BSU or SU is reset or re-powered.)
Uploading configuration changes made via the Web GUI is a convenient way to modify
the configuration file of an in-service Base Station Unit or Subscriber Unit.
Details of the Web GUI are given in Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 of this manual.
