Suggestions:
You
may find that you
will
enjoy
use
of your air conditioner in
moderate as well
as hot
weather; this
permits you to keep the
windows
closed shutting out
smog,
dust, and noise. (You will
always be safer
when
driver
alertness is maintained
by
a briskly cool and quiet en-
vironment.)
Important
Notes:
Your air conditioner
is an over-the-road air conditioner, not meant to
be operated for
prolonged periods
while the motor
is at idle. To
avoid
overheating
the
vehicle
engine the
air conditioner should
be turned off
any time idle periods exceed
five minutes. It may also
be necessary to
turn
off during some long uphill climbs in extreme weather and in con-
gested stop-and-go traffic, when
the
vehicle engine
may tend to
overheat.
CA
UTION:
Compressor
clutch damage can result from prolonged engine
idling.
Maintenance Information:
¢
Initial
“break-in” period VERY IMPORTANT.
'
New
belts set
in pulley grooves and must
be adjusted for the
first 2,500
miles and periodically thereafter.
A loose belt
causes
vibration, is noisy,
wears out prematurely,
and causes
wear
in
the
drive pulleys. An overtightened
belt causes
strain
on bearings and
brackets.
v Periodic
Maintenance
Operate your
air conditioner year-around
at least five
minutes
weekly,
regardless
of weather
conditions. This
keeps internal
parts
lubricated and helps prevent
loss of refrigerant
due
to
dried out
seals. Your air conditioner
should be
serviced every
spring by
a competent air
conditioning mechanic.
The
con-
denser, mounted
in front of the
radiator, must
be inspected
and cleaned
periodically
of such obstructions
as bugs
and
leaves. DO
NOT steam-clean
the condenser.
Use water
and
stiff brush
(not wire).
DO NOT mount
a bug screen
or other
obstructive
accessories
in front
of the condenser.
