Overview

This document serves as a Quick Start Guide for the Aqua Products Rapids XLS Robotic Pool Cleaner, providing essential instructions for its operation and maintenance. The Rapids XLS is designed to automate the cleaning of swimming pools, offering a convenient and efficient solution for pool owners.

Function Description

The Rapids XLS is a robotic pool cleaner that operates autonomously to remove debris from your pool. It is equipped with a power supply that connects to a GFCI outlet, providing the necessary power for its operation. The cleaner navigates the pool, scrubbing surfaces and collecting dirt and debris into its internal filter baskets. Its robotic nature means that once initiated, it requires minimal human intervention until the cleaning cycle is complete. The device is designed to handle various pool shapes, with an anticipated cleaning pattern that adapts to both longer width and circular pools.

Usage Features

Getting Started (Steps 1-6):

  1. Preparation: Before use, straighten out the floating cable and plug it into the power supply. It's crucial not to plug the power supply into an electrical outlet at this stage.
  2. Wheel Adjustment: The cleaner features adjustable wheels, controlled by a 'slider' on the front. This adjustment helps optimize the cleaner's movement and turning radius within the pool. More detailed information on wheel adjustment can be found in the Settings Manual.
  3. Placement in Pool: Gently place the cleaner into the pool using the front handle. To ensure proper operation, turn the cleaner upside down briefly while submerged to release any trapped air bubbles. This prevents the cleaner from floating excessively and ensures it can effectively clean the pool bottom.
  4. Power Connection: Once the cleaner is in the water, plug the power supply into a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet. This is a critical safety measure to prevent electrical shock.
  5. Power On: Turn the power supply ON using the designated ON/OFF button.
  6. Timer Setting: The Rapids XLS offers two preset cleaning cycles:
    • Small Pool: Sets the cleaner for a 1-hour shut-off cycle.
    • Large Pool: Sets the cleaner for a 2-hour shut-off cycle. Select the appropriate timer setting based on your pool size, and the cleaner will begin its operation.

Safety Warnings:

  • Water Immersion: The Power Supply should never be turned on unless the pool cleaner is fully submerged in water.
  • No Swimming: Do not operate the cleaner while people are swimming in the pool.
  • Power Supply Placement: The Power Supply must be placed at least 12 feet (4 meters) away from the pool's edge at all times to ensure safety. A diagram illustrates the correct placement relative to the midpoint of the long side of the pool.
  • Electrical Safety: To prevent electric shock hazards, the unit must be connected to an RCD (Residual Current Device) with a residual operating current not exceeding 30mA.
  • Maintenance Disconnection: Before performing any troubleshooting or maintenance procedures, always disconnect the cleaner from the Power Supply (transformer) and unplug the Power Supply from the electrical outlet. This prevents personal injury or damage to the cleaner.

Troubleshooting Common Issues:

  • Not Sucking Up Debris: Check if the filter bag is clean, ensure proper setup of the unit and power supply, and verify that the propellers are not stuck.
  • Blinking LED Lights: This often indicates the unit is out of water or the propellers are stuck. Pressing the power button once will restart the cleaning program from where it left off.
  • Tangled Floating Cable: The cable can be untangled by changing the axle set-up using the slider on the front of the cleaner. This adjustment forces the unit to run in a reverse pattern, helping to untangle the cable. Additionally, the E-Z Swivel feature can be used: grab the larger grip and pull towards the power supply, and the cable will automatically untangle itself.
  • Stuck in Middle of Pool: If the unit is stuck but still pumping water, check for any obstructions or loose objects in the pool that might be impeding its movement.

Maintenance Features

Robot Removal and Filter Bag Cleaning (Steps 7-12): 7. Power Off: Once the cleaning cycle is complete or you wish to remove the cleaner, turn the power supply OFF by pressing and releasing the power button once. 8. Removal from Pool: Gently pull the cleaner to the edge of the pool using the floating cable. Lift the unit out of the water using its handle, allowing the water to drain from the cleaner. 9. Basket Removal: Grab the handle on the filter basket and gently pull upward to remove the baskets from each side of the cleaner. 10. Basket Opening: Open the filter basket by using the tab located on the basket door. 11. Basket Cleaning: Use a hose to clean out the debris from the basket. It is recommended to spray water into the basket from the outside to effectively dislodge and remove collected debris. 12. Inside Cleaning: Ensure that the inside areas of the basket door are also thoroughly cleaned to maintain optimal filtration performance.

Additional Maintenance Information:

  • Axle Set-up (Figure A): The slider on the front of the cleaner allows adjustment of the axle set-up, which controls how tightly or widely the cleaner turns. This can be used to prevent cable tangling by forcing a reverse pattern.
  • E-Z Swivel (Figure B): For tangled cables, the E-Z Swivel helps straighten it out. Disconnect the floating cable from the power supply first, then grab the larger grip and pull towards the power supply. The cable will untangle automatically.
