GROUND AND TINE SPEED
To change forward speed, drive belt is shifted from one
sheave groove to the other groove. Clutch must be
disengaged to move belts.
To Place Belt on Fast Sheave
1. Stop engine.
2. Disconnect spark plug wire.
3. Remove belt guard.
4. Start belt off bottom sheave in direction of
rotation.
5. Pull starter rope slowly to roll belt off sheave.
6. Place belt in fast position on forward and bottom
drive sheaves.
7. Install belt guard.
8. Connect spark plug wire.
To Place Belt on Slow Sheave
1. Stop engine.
2. Disconnect spark plug wire.
3. Remove belt guard.
4. Start belt off drive sheave in direction of rotation.
5. Pull starter rope slowly to roll belt off sheave.
6. Place belt in slow position on forward drive
sheave.
7. Place belt in slow position on bottom sheave.
8. Install belt guard.

ADJUSTING CLUTCH CABLES
To check forward or reverse clutch cables:
1. Shut off engine, allow muffler to cool and remove
spark plug wire from spark plug.
2. Engage the forward or reverse handle fully and
check the distance the spring extends at the
lower end of the cable. If spring does not extend
from 1/2" to 5/8" (12.7mm to 15.9mm), adjust
cables.
To increase spring length:
1. Loosen adjustment nut toward rubber cap on
clutch cable.
2. Secure cable to bracket by tightening jam nut.
3. Remeasure spring extension distance and
readjust as needed.
To decrease spring length:
1. Loosen jam nut downward on clutch cable.
2. Secure cable to bracket by tightening adjustment
nut.
3. Remeasure spring extension distance and
readjust as needed.
WARNING: DO NOT remove belt cover while
engine is running. Disengage clutch, stop
engine and remove wire from spark plug
before attempting to change belt speed.
CAUTION: Engine and drive parts are hot
after operation.
