2.3 Starting up for the first time
1. Aftermakingalltheconnections,replacethesystemcasecover.
2. Ensurethatallswitchesareoff.
3. Connectthepowercordtothepowerconnectoratthebackofthesystemchassis.
4. Connectthepowercordtoapoweroutletthatisequippedwithasurgeprotector.
5. Turnonthedevicesinthefollowingorder:
a. Monitor
b. ExternalSCSIdevices(startingwiththelastdeviceonthechain)
c. Systempower
6. Afterapplyingpower,thesystempowerLEDonthesystemfrontpanelcaselights
up.ForsystemswithATXpowersupplies,thesystemLEDlightsupwhenyoupress
theATXpowerbutton.Ifyourmonitorcomplieswiththe“green”standardsorifithas
a“powerstandby”feature,themonitorLEDmaylightuporchangefromorangeto
greenafterthesystemLEDturnson.
Thesystemthenrunsthepower-onselftests(POST).Whilethetestsarerunning,
theBIOSbeeps(refertotheBIOSbeepcodestable)oradditionalmessagesappear
onthescreen.Ifyoudonotseeanythingwithin30secondsfromthetimeyouturned
onthepower,thesystemmayhavefailedapower-ontest.Checkthejumpersettings
and connections or call your retailer for assistance.

instructionsinChapter3.
2.4 Turning off the computer
WhilethesystemisON,pressthepowerbuttonforlessthanfoursecondstoputthesystem
onsleepmodeorsoft-offmode,dependingontheBIOSsetting.Pressthepowerbutton
formorethanfoursecondstoletthesystementerthesoft-offmoderegardlessoftheBIOS
setting.
