The brake system will still respond even with-
out the assistance of the ABS system. See your
authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible to re-
store full braking performance. For more infor-
mat ion regarding the ABS
¢ page 186.
The ABS warning light and the brake warning
light come on together. The ABS will not work
and you will notice a change in braking re-
sponse and performance.
Malfunction in the brake system
If the brake warning light ¢ page 15 and the
ABS warning ill uminate
together there may be a
malf unct ion in the ABS, and there may also be a
malfunct ion in the brake system itself

In t he event of a malfunction in the brake sys-
tem
the warning/indicator li ght 1111 (USA mod -
els)/. (Canada models) in the instrument clus-
ter f lashes. By pressing the
I SET I button, you can
bring up a drive r message w hich explains t he
malfunct ion in more detail. Please not e

Malfunction in the electronic differential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works togethe r with the ABS. The ABS
war ning light w ill come on if there is a malf unc-
tion in the EDL syst em

t hor ized Audi dealer as soon as possible.
.8, WARNING
- If t he 9 (USA models)/ KO'A <Canada mod-
els) warn ing ligh t does not go out, or if it
comes on w hile dr iving, the ABS system is
not wo rking prope rly . The vehicle can then
be stopped only with t he standard brakes
(without ABS). You w ill not have the protec-
t ion ABS provides. Contact your aut horized
Audi dealer as soon as possible.
- If the
1111 (USA models) . (Canada mod -
els) brake system indicator light t ur ns on to-
get her wit h the ABS and ESC indicat or
ligh t s, t he ABS/ESC regula ti ng func t ion may
have failed. Funct ions that stab il ize t he ve-
hicle are no longer available . This could
cause the vehicle to swerve and increase t he
risk of sliding . Drive carefully to t he nearest

ed.
::~/(®) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the elec-
tromechanical parking brake.
Wit h the parking brake appli ed and the ignit ion
tu rned on, the . (USA models)/ . (Cana-
da models) warning/indicator li ght illum inates.
After the ignition has been turned off, t he warn-
ing/indicato r light continues to ill uminate for
about 30 seconds. If the parki ng brake is applied
with the igniti on turned off, the warn ing/ indica-
tor light ill uminates f or about 30 seconds.
The warning/i ndicator lig ht wi ll go out when the
parking brake is released.
If the warning/ind icator light flashes continuous -
ly
after applying the parking brake, braking force
is not sufficient to prevent the vehicle from roll-
ing unintentionally . Please note the following :
- If the slope of the grou nd is too steep to park
the vehicle, the addit ional drive message ap-
pears
Caution: Vehicle parked too steep .
- In the event of a parking brake malf unction,
the yellow
liJ symbol appears in the instru -
ment cluste r display and the driver message
Parking brake malfunction! is displayed . Have
t he malfunction repaired as soon as possible by
an aut hor ized Audi dealer or any ot her qualified
workshop.
BRAKE/(Q)) Brake system
The warning/indicator light flashes if brake fluid
level is low, if there is an ABS system malfunc-
tion or a parking brake malfun ct ion.
The 1111 (USA models) /. (Canada models)
li ght illu min at es when t he igni t ion is tur ned on.
It goes out aft er t he engine has been start ed.
This ind icates t hat t he brake warning lig ht is
f unct ioning properly.
If the brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking, there may be a
