Internet providers are companies or institutions which provide
only access and other communications services to the Internet.
On-line services like AOL provide a entire environment with spe-
cial contents and interfaces. Access to the Internet is provided
as well.
Into the Internet with an Internet Provider
The following conditions must be fufilled for access to the
Internet:
• You must have contracted with an Internet provider and re-
ceived the parameters for your Internet access (ISDN number
of the Internet server, user name, password, any proxy set-
tings required, etc.). The TCP/IP network protocol must be
installed and configured according to the requirements of
the Internet provider.
• Windows Dial-Up Networking must be installed.
• An AVM system driver, the CAPI Port Driver or the NDIS WAN
CAPI Driver, must be installed.
The AVM System Drivers
The AVM system drivers allow communications programs like
the Dial-Up Network to be used parallel to ISDN software based
on CAPI 2.0 (like FRITZ!).
The AVM ISDN CAPI Port Driver creates several virtual modems in
the Windows system, which then can be accessed by any suit-
able programs. These modems are identical except for their pre-
configured settings. The CAPI Port modem “AVM ISDN Internet
(PPP)”, for instance, can be used for Internet connections. The
CAPI Port Driver is installed by default during the initial FRITZ!Card
installation.
With the help of the NDIS WAN CAPI Driver, your ISDN-Controller
FRITZ!Card is configured as a network adapter in the Windows
system. Follow the installation instructions in the help file for
your operating system, located in the SOFTWARE\NDISWAN folder
on the FRITZ!Card CD.
