Drilling wood
WARNING: The dust produced from working with some materials can be toxic. Beech, oak,
mahogany and teak natural woods, man-made composite woods and some surface treat-
ments, including paint with lead, are toxic. Lead-based paint is common in buildings built
before 1960. Always wear suitable respiratory protection; for example, a respirator face
mask. Use a dust extraction system or regularly vacuum the work area to prevent the build-
up of dust. In addition, vacuum the work area after the work has been completed. Most dust
is a fire hazard. Overhead work surfaces have an increased safety risk for dust.
- Select drill mode with the Mode Selector and the required gear (typically 2nd gear).
- Ensure that drill bits are suitable for wood, and are within the maximum capacity of this
power tool (see “Technical data”).
Drilling metal
- Select drill mode with the Mode Selector (5) and the required gear (typically 2
nd
gear).
- Ensure that drill bits are suitable for the grade of metal being drilled and are within the
maximum capacity of the machine (see “Technical data”).
- To ensure accuracy, mark the intended hole position using a hammer and centre punch.
WARNING: The drill bit and the workpiece will become very hot when drilling metal. DO
NOT touch the bit and never allow it to come into contact with combustible materials when
hot. Always use a suitable lubricant or cutting fluid, and drill at appropriate speeds.
- Only apply moderate pressure to the drill bit, ensuring efficient cutting and prolonged
drill bit life.
- Use a countersink bit to remove sharp burrs from the hole, preventing cuts and other
kinds of injury.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Always remove the plug from the mains power supply before carrying out any
maintenance/cleaning of the Battery Charger. Remove the Battery before carrying out any
maintenance/cleaning of the drill.
Note: Both the drill and the Charger contain no user-serviceable parts. If the device does not
perform as outlined in this manual, return it to an authorized service centre for repair.
Cleaning
Keep your machine clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly,
and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or
dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes.
