Overview

This document is an owner's manual and installation guide for the Awntech New Yorker Style Awning.

Function Description:

The Awntech New Yorker Style Awning is designed to provide shade and protection over windows and doors. The manual details the assembly process for the awning frame and the installation of its fabric cover, followed by instructions for mounting the complete awning onto a building wall. The awnings are specifically designed to be 4.5 inches wider than standard window/door openings, allowing them to anchor securely to the studs surrounding the opening. The manual provides a comprehensive parts list and step-by-step instructions for assembling the frame on the ground before mounting. It also includes guidance on selecting appropriate installation hardware based on the wall type (concrete block, wood, or siding) and offers advice on maintenance and cleaning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Awning Sizing: The manual provides a detailed table mapping "Awning size" (in feet) to "Width in inches" for various models (RN22, EN23, EN24, CN32, CN33, CN34, CN43, CN44, EN2442, EN1836, EN1030). For example, an awning size of 3 ft corresponds to 40.5 inches wide, while a 20 ft awning is 244.5 inches wide.
  • Component Quantities: A "Part's List" table specifies the number of each component (e.g., Top Bar – C Channel, Front Bar, Cover Support, Projection, Projection Assembly, Back Bar, Projection Support, Projection Bar Assembly) required for different awning sizes ranging from 3-4 ft to 13-18 ft, and custom sizes.
  • Multi-Section Awnings: All awning sizes over 6 feet wide come in multiple sections. For instance, a 6 ft Top Bar (TB) consists of TB1 & TB2, and a Front Bar (FB) consists of FB1 & FB2.
  • Installation Hardware Recommendations (not supplied by Awntech):
    • Concrete Block Walls: 3/8" x 3" Masonry anchor bolts or Tapcon Screws plus Washers (1 per bracket).
    • Wood or Siding: 3/8" x 3" Lag Screws plus Washers (1 per bracket).
    • Other Structures: Consult a professional.
  • Dimensions (Example for RR22-5): For a 5'-0" wide window, the RR22-5 model measures 64.5” wide, 31” tall (24” plus 7” valance), and 24” deep (projection).
  • Height Measurements (for mounting): A detailed chart provides "Space between TB and P," "Height incl valance," and "Projection" in inches for various models (RN22, CN32-CN34, CN43-CN44, EN2442, EN12, EN1836, EN1230, EN1030, EN23, EN24, and NY1618-NY3048). These measurements are crucial for marking the wall where the awning touches.

Usage Features:

  • Adult Assembly Required: The manual explicitly states that adult assembly is required.
  • Pre-Installed Fittings: The fittings for the awning are pre-installed, as the product is pre-assembled and inspected at the factory.
  • Ground Assembly: The New Yorker awning should be assembled on the ground before mounting.
  • Velcro Fastening: The fabric cover attaches to the bars using pre-installed Velcro tape, ensuring a snug fit.
  • Z-Brackets for Mounting: Z-Brackets are used to temporarily place the awning on the wall for fitment, then secured with self-tapping screws. There are no pre-drilled holes for the Z-Brackets on the frame, allowing flexibility in placement.
  • Weather Stripping: Weather stripping is installed on the awning's outside perimeter to enhance protection.
  • Assistant Recommended for Larger Awnings: For larger awnings, an assistant may be needed due to the size and weight of the awning.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Awnings should be cleaned at least once a year in low maintenance areas or twice a year in high maintenance areas (e.g., FL, TX, NM, AZ, NV, or high altitude areas).
  • Cleaning Procedure: Cleaning involves brushing off debris with a broom, followed by brushing on a non-detergent cleaning compound (a solution of 1 part vinegar to 1 part water), allowing it to sit for 20 minutes, and then rinsing.
  • Stain Removal Chart: A "CLEANING CHART FOR TYPICAL AWNING STAINS" provides recommended cleaning solutions for various stains, including charcoal (vacuum, then liquid detergent), chewing gum (acetone), soda (liquid detergent), car grease (acetone), iron rust (oxalic or citrus acids, water), mildew (1 cup bleach and ¼ mild soap per gallon water), oil (acetone), wet latex paint (liquid detergent, water), dried latex paint (paint, oil or grease remover), oil or lacquer paint (paint, oil or grease remover), suntan lotion (Pine Power® or pine oil detergent), and tree sap (turpentine, liquid detergent).
  • Warranty Exclusions: Normal wear and tear, damages caused by improper anchoring, strong winds, snow, or ice are not covered under warranty. Replacement fabric is available for purchase.
  • Inspection for Damage/Shortage: Users are advised to inspect parts for damage or missing items upon receipt and contact Awntech for replacement parts if needed.
