Statusofwirelessnetworks
Toviewalistofavailablewirelessnetworks,gotoSystemOptions>Network>Wireless.Thestatusofwirelessnetworkslististhe
resultofanetworkscanandprovidesthefollowinginformation:
•SSIDisthenameofawirelessnetwork.
•Modeshowsthetypeofnetwork,forexampleMaster(anaccesspoint).
•Securityshowsthetypeofsecuritythenetworkuses.
•Channelshowsthewirelesschannelcurrentlyinuse.
•Signalstrengthshowsthequality,thestrength,ofthesignal.
•BitrateshowsthecurrentbitrateinMbit/s.Thiscanonlybeshownfortheaccesspointcurrentlyinuse.
ClickRefreshtoperformanewscan.
AccesspointswithadisabledSSIDBroadcastwillnotappearunlesstheAxisproductisassociatedwithit.Oncethewireless
connectionisestablished,thenetworktheAxisproductiscurrentlylinkedtoisshowninblue.Anetworkusingunsupported
securityisshowningrey.
WirelessSettings
Important
•Toestablishandmaintaincommunication,allwirelesssettingsmustbeexactlythesameintheAxisproductasinthe
accesspoint.
•AlwayscongureorchangethewirelesssettingsintheAxisproductrst,beforechangingthesettingsinthewireless
accesspoint.
•Keys,passphrasesandcerticatesthatareusedforsecuritymustbeenteredmanually.ContactyourNetworkAdministrator
fortherequirementsfortheselectedaccesspoint.
ThewirelesssettingscontrolhowtheAxisproductinteractswiththewirelessnetwork.Apartfromidentifyingthewirelessnetwork,it
isalsopossibletoenablewirelessencryption.
SelectEnablecongestioncontroltosecurethewirelessconnectionbetweentheAxisproductandaccesspointincongested
environments,forexamplewheretherearemanyavailablenetworksandwheremanydevicesareusingthesameaccesspoint.
CongestioncontrolusesaRequestToSend/ClearToSend(RTS/CTS)handshaketoreserveaccesstothewirelessmediabefore
transmittingapacket.Usingthehandshakedecreasesthroughputsinceitaddsanoverhead.Insomesituations,however,the
overheadoftheRTS/CTShandshakeislowerthantheoverheadcausedbycollisionsonthewirelessmedia.Congestioncontrolis
disabledbydefault.
SelectEnableWLANpairingbuttontoallowthewirelessAxisproducttoconnecttoanaccesspointbypushingabuttononboth
ofthedeviceswithina120secondtimewindow.Duringthistimethedeviceswillautomaticallydiscovereachotherandagree
onaconguration.
Makesuretheaccesspointalsohaspushbuttonconguration(PBC)enabledandthattheAxisproductisnotconnectedtothewired
network.AfterasuccessfulpairinganyWLANsettingssetbytheuserintheAxisproductareoverwritten.TheWLANpairingbutton
isenabledbydefault;deselectthisoptiontopreventunauthorizedWLANpairing.
SSIDisthenameoftheselectedwirelessnetwork,whichmustbeexactlythesameasthenameinthewirelessaccesspoint.Ifthe
eldisleftblanktheAxisproductwillnotconnecttoanywirelessnetwork.
