Bitratecontrolhelpsyoutomanagethebandwidthconsumptionofyourvideostream.
Variablebitrate(VBR)
Variablebitrateallowsthebandwidthconsumptiontovarydependingonthelevelofactivityinthescene.Themoreactivity,
themorebandwidthyouneed.Withvariablebitrateyouareguaranteedconstantimagequality,butyouneedtomakesure
youhavestoragemargins.
Maximumbitrate(MBR)
Maximumbitrateletsyousetatargetbitratetohandlebitratelimitationsinyoursystem.Youmightseeadeclineinimagequalityor
framerateastheinstantaneousbitrateiskeptbelowthespeciedtargetbitrate.Youcanchoosetoprioritizeeitherimagequality
orframerate.Werecommendthatyoucongurethetargetbitratetoahighervaluethantheexpectedbitrate.Thisgivesyoua
marginincasethereisahighlevelofactivityinthescene.

Averagebitrate(ABR)
Withaveragebitrate,thebitrateisautomaticallyadjustedoveralongerperiodoftime.Thisissoyoucanmeetthespeciedtarget
andprovidethebestvideoqualitybasedonyouravailablestorage.Bitrateishigherinsceneswithalotofactivity,comparedtostatic
scenes.Youaremorelikelytogetbetterimagequalitywheninsceneswithalotofactivityifyouusetheaveragebitrateoption.You
candenethetotalstoragerequiredtostorethevideostreamforaspeciedamountoftime(retentiontime)whenimagequalityis
adjustedtomeetthespeciedtargetbitrate.Specifytheaveragebitratesettingsinoneofthefollowingways:
•Tocalculatetheestimatedstorageneed,setthetargetbitrateandtheretentiontime.
•Tocalculatetheaveragebitrate,basedonavailablestorageandrequiredretentiontime,usethetargetbitratecalculator.
