Overview

This document is a user guide for Aztec Umbrella Systems, specifically covering the Aztec Original, Aztec Extreme, and Aztec Off-Set models. It provides essential information on safety, general usage, maintenance, and accessories for these outdoor umbrellas.

Function Description:

Aztec Umbrellas are designed as outdoor shelters, offering protection from the elements. Depending on the model and chosen accessories, they can provide shade, heat, and light. They are intended for use in various outdoor settings, such as commercial establishments or private residences. The umbrellas are designed to be opened and closed, with some models featuring integrated heating and lighting systems for extended usability in different weather conditions. The "Extreme" models are noted for their larger size and weight, often requiring on-site assembly.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Supply (for models with heat and light): Requires a 32amp supply on a C-type breaker. The umbrella will have 3 or 5 cables emerging from the mast base, which must be connected with a waterproof connector. A qualified electrician is recommended for installation.
  • Heating Kit: Consists of 4 x 1kW or 1.5kW infrared heaters. These are attached to the underside of the lower fixing ring via fold-down arms. Each heater has a weatherproof connector that attaches to the electrical distribution hub. Heaters on fold-down arms allow the heater to be lowered to the center pole with a simple lift and twist, enabling the parasol to be shut without removing the heaters. These arms and heaters are available in white and black, typically 2 or 4 per parasol.
  • LED Lighting: Comprises 4 LED strips encased in solid casing, attached to the underside of the corner arms. Available in cool white as standard, with warm white available upon request.
  • Cabling: Umbrellas are wired with either 3 or 5 cables, depending on the chosen kit. These include:
    • Thick Brown (heaters)
    • Thick Blue (heaters)
    • Earth
    • Thin Brown (lighting)
    • Thin Blue (lighting)
    • Connections should be made to the building's feed via a suitable waterproof connector by a competent fitter. Each umbrella should also have a rotary isolator for easy isolation.
  • Warranty: 2 years from the date of delivery, covering fixings, arms, gearbox, and mast. It is non-transferable and applies to the original buyer. Wind damage, vandalism, and modifications made post-delivery are not covered. The manufacturer is not responsible for additional costs due to defects.
  • Components: Depending on accessories ordered, an umbrella may include: umbrella mast (with or without electrical hub), 8-12 arms, crank handle, fabric membrane, heating kit, lighting kit, cover bag, and top hat with fixings.

Usage Features:

  • Positioning: Must be positioned according to installation instructions provided with the ground fixing. If portable bases are used, they must be correctly positioned to avoid obstructions.
  • Installation: Requires two or three competent persons, depending on size, to slowly raise the umbrella. Extreme models are generally built on site due to their size and weight.
  • Opening: Remove the cover bag (if present) and Aztec wrap strap. Ensure the area is clear. Use the crank handle to open until resistance is met. Remove the crank handle. If the umbrella doesn't open initially, gently ease the arms outwards before continuing with the crank handle.
  • Closing: Insert the crank handle and slowly turn until the umbrella is in the closed position. Pull out the fabric from between the closed arms and wrap it around the umbrella. Secure the fabric with the wrap strap. If applicable, place the cover bag over the umbrella.
  • Heater Operation: Heaters must be turned off and cooled down before closing the umbrella.
  • Lighting Kit: Attached to the underside of the corner arms and terminated inside the electrical distribution hub.
  • Electrical Distribution Hub: Located with the control gear for the umbrella, it includes a push-for-heat timer button to regulate heater duration. The hub must not be exposed to excessive water.
  • Weather Precautions: In severe weather, close the umbrella and strap it up using an Aztec wrap strap. Extra care is needed if the umbrella is on a portable base. Damage from wind or snow is not covered under warranty. Umbrellas not installed on in-ground sleeves are not covered under recommended wind speeds.
  • Coastal Locations: Should use cover bags when the umbrella is closed.
  • General Operation: Recommended to be operated by an adult.
  • Safety: Do not position the umbrella near a naked flame. Always ensure permission to install an umbrella.
  • Side Curtains & Guttering (Accessories):
    • Side Curtains: Attached via unique lock and latch Velcro to umbrellas with valances. One side of the curtain is attached to the inside of the valance, then moved along until the entire length is secured. The bottom has eyelets for securing. Curtains should not be used on windy days.
    • Guttering: Connected similarly to curtains. Generally tapered to allow rain runoff in one direction.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Frame: Clean with a damp cloth and dry with a dry cloth.
    • Fabric: Clean with a soft brush to remove surface dirt, then gently wash with a light soap and water solution, and rinse thoroughly.
  • Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the umbrella for loose fixings, or issues with arms or the crank mechanism. Notify the supplier of any questions as soon as possible.
  • Lubrication: Umbrellas are not a replacement for solid outdoor shelters and should be opened and closed regularly to ensure moving parts are kept moving and lubricated.
  • Storage: If keeping the umbrella closed for a period, ensure the fabric is dry and the power supply is isolated. When removing curtains, avoid dragging fabric on the floor; fold and store in a dry location.
  • Peak Performance: Regularly check the umbrella to ensure it stays in peak performance.
