TAPE
RECORDER

Connect
these
sockets
to
the
inputs
of
the
tape
or
cassette
recorder
on
which
you
wish
to
record.
Select
your
recording
source
on
the
SELECTOR
switch
(29)
on
the
front
panel.
To
monitor
the
recording,
turn
the
TAPE
MONI-
TOR
switch
(28)
to “SOURCE”.
If using a tape recorder with separate record
and playback heads, you can monitor “after
tape“ by turning the TAPE MONITOR switch
(28)
from
"SOURCE"
to
“A“.
In
addition,
the
outputs of the recording equipment should be
connected to the TAPE A-IN sockets on the
Receiver, as described later.
(5) TAPE RECORDER A-IN
Connect the outputs of the tape or cassette
deck on which you wish to play back to the A-IN
sockets. To play back the recording, set the
TAPE
MONITOR
switch
(28)
onto
"A".
(6) TAPE RECORDER B-OUT
The inputs of a second tape or cassette
recorder can be connected to these sockets.
Using the SELECTOR switch (29), select the
source from which you wish to record and for
monitoring, set the TAPE MONITOR switch
(28)
onto
separate
record
and
playback
heads,
after-tape monitoring is possible by turning the
TAPE
MONITOR
switch
(28)
from
"SOURCE"
to “B“. In addition, the outputs of the recording
unit should be connected to the TAPE B-IN
sockets on the Receiver, as described later.
(7) TAPE RECORDER IN-B
Input for a second tape or cassette recorder.
Connect the outputs of the second unit to the
TAPE RECORDER B-IN sockets. For Playback,
set the TAPE MONITOR switch (28) onto “B“.
(8) TAPE RECORDER B REC/PB
In
addition
to
Cinch
sockets
for
two
tape
recorders,
the
BASF
D
6160
HiFi
Receiver
also
has
DIN
sockets
(to
DIN
standard
41523)
for
recording
and
playback
in
conjunction
with
a
tape
or
cassette
recorder.
If
the
equipment
you
wish
to
connect
is
fitted
solely
with
a
DIN
record/playback
socket,
please
use
the
DIN
REC/PB
socket
on
the
D
6160.
If
you
have
a
choice
between
DIN
and
Cinch
connections,
choose
the
Cinch,
as
these
generally
give
better
results.
Proceed as described in (6) and (7).
(9) FM DE-EMPHASIS
(=
the
lowering
in
intensity
by
the
receiver
of
high
frequencies
raised
by
the
broadcasting
station
(PREEMPHASIS)
in
order
to
reduce
hiss)

Receiver

reception

FM
broadcasts

This
is
operated
by
turning
the
FM

SPEAKERS
A

B
The
BASF
D
6160
HiFi
Receiver
allows
you
to
operate
two
sets
of loudspeakers
separately
or
together.
Connect
your
loudspeakers
to
“A"
and/or
“B“.
Speakers
for
the
right
hand
side
of
your
room
should
be
connected
to
the
SPEAKER
R
socket,
those
for
left,
to
SPEAKER
L.
Please
bear
in
mind
the
polarity.
The
positive
connection
of
the
Receiver
(red)
should
be
connected
to
the
positive
connection
of
the
speaker,
and
the
negative
of
the
Receiver
(black)
to
the
negative
of
the
speaker.
Important!
Loudspeaker
systems
with
an
impedance
of
4-
16
Ohms
can
be
connected.
If
two
loudspeaker
systems
are
being
used,
make
sure
that
each
individual
speaker
has
an
impedance
of
at
least
8 Ohms.
(11) MAINS LEAD
Connect the mains lead to your 220 V mains
supply.
(12) AM FERRITE ROD ANTENNA
Your
BASF
D
6160
HiFi
Receiver
is
equipped
with
an
extending
ferrite
antenna
for
good
medium
wave
(AM)
reception.
(13) AM ANTENNA
The AM screw connection is for ribbon or
external AM antenna.
(14) ANTENNA GND (= GROUND)
The
best
reception
quality
with
an
AM
antenna
can
be
attained
when
the
chassis
of
the
Receiver
has
been
earthed.
If possible,
the
Receiver
should
be
earthed,
e. g. to a nearby
water
pipe.
(15) FM 240/300 OHM ANTENNA
If
you
have
a
folding
or
external
FM
antenna,
connect
this
to
the
300
Ohm
connection
provided.
Please
remember
that
a folding
antenna
is only
an
aid.
A proper
antenna
on
or
beneath
the
roof
will
enable
you
to receive
more
stations
at better
quality.
(16) FM 60/75 OHM ANTENNA
In addition to the 240/300 Ohm ribbon antenna
connection, the BASF D 6160 HiFi Receiver also
has a 65/75 Ohm coaxial cable antenna
connection. If you possess such an antenna
cable, connect it to the screw connection
provided.

Front
controls
and
displays
(17) POWER
Press
the
POWER
toggle
switch
to
turn
the
equipment
on
and
off.
(18) PHONES
Connect the jack plug of your headphones to
this socket. If you wish to listen through the
headphones only, make sure that the SPE-
AKERS switch (19) is in the “OFF“ position.
Headphones with an impedance of 8-2000
Ohms can be used. However, the most suitable
are those with an impedance of 200-400 Ohms.
