The BatteryMINDer® Plus Model 12117TC is a charger, maintainer, and desulfator designed for 12-volt lead-acid batteries. It is not intended for use with aviation-type batteries.

This device serves three primary functions:
- Charging: It recharges 12-volt lead-acid batteries.
- Maintaining: It keeps batteries at an optimal charge level, preventing overcharging and ensuring readiness for use.
- Desulfating: It utilizes a proprietary technology to reverse and prevent sulfation, a common cause of battery failure, thereby extending battery life and improving performance.
The charger employs a multi-stage charging process, including Bulk Charging, Analysis Stage, Absorption Charging, and Equalization Charging, before transitioning to Float Charging and Maintenance Charging.

Usage Features:
- Simple Instructions:
- Connect the positive (RED) clip to the positive battery terminal.
- Connect the negative (BLACK) clip to the negative battery terminal.
- Plug in the BatteryMINDer.
- The CHARGING/MAINTENANCE LED should be GREEN, and the AC POWER ON LED should be RED.
- LED Indication System: The device features a clear LED display system to indicate the charging status and potential faults.
- Charging Status: LEDs indicate stages like Bulk Charging, Analysis Stage, Absorption Charging, and Equalization Charging (all show CHARGING (GREEN) ON and POWER (RED) ON).
- Maintenance Status: Float Charging and Maintenance Charging are indicated by CHARGING (GREEN) FLASHING and POWER (RED) ON.
- Fault Indications:
- A.C. Power Connected, Battery Disconnected: CHARGING (GREEN) OFF, POWER (RED) ON.
- Battery Reverse Polarity: CHARGING (GREEN) OFF, POWER (RED) ON.
- Analysis Failed: Both RED & GREEN flash simultaneously.
- Maintenance Button: If the battery voltage is above 12.5V before connecting to AC power, pressing this button will bypass the Charging Stage and go directly to Maintenance Mode. Holding the button for more than 3 seconds will exit Maintenance Mode.
- Automatic Temperature Compensation: An installed auto-temp compensation sensor adjusts charging parameters based on ambient temperature, ensuring optimal charging and preventing damage in varying conditions.
- Quick Connector: The 2' Battery Clip Cord Set comes with a quick connector for easy attachment and detachment.
- Multiple Battery Charging/Maintaining:
- Can charge/maintain multiple batteries of the same type (flooded or AGM) and condition.
- It is crucial to charge each battery individually before connecting them together.
- Never connect batteries at different states of charge, as this can cause rapid energy transfer and catastrophic failure.
- Once charged, batteries can be connected in parallel (positive to positive, negative to negative) or series (for example, two 6V batteries in series for a 12V system) using 18 gauge or heavier wire.
Maintenance Features:
- Sulfation Reversal: The desulfation feature actively works to break down lead sulfate crystals that accumulate on battery plates, a common cause of reduced capacity and premature battery failure. Badly sulfated batteries may require 2-4 weeks of float charging to show results.
- Troubleshooting:
- The unit will not operate if the battery voltage is below 6 Volts.
- If a load is on the battery, disconnect it and recharge. Persistent issues may indicate a badly sulfated and non-recoverable battery.
- The unit requires connection to a battery to output power. To test output with a meter, connect the meter to the battery.
- Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes critical safety instructions, including warnings about explosive gases, personal precautions (eye and clothing protection, avoiding sparks), and proper connection procedures for batteries both in and outside a vehicle. It also advises against disassembling the charger and to contact VDC Electronics Tech Support for service.
