The Baumatic BDW70W/S is a 60 cm electronic dishwasher designed for household use, capable of accommodating 14 place settings. It offers various wash cycles to handle different levels of soiling, from lightly soiled crockery and glass to heavily soiled pots, pans, and casserole dishes with dried food. The dishwasher features an "Alt function" for dual-zone washing, allowing users to select either the upper or lower basket for washing, which can be useful for smaller loads or specific item types.
The appliance operates by automatically dispensing detergent and rinse aid during the wash cycle. The rinse aid is crucial for preventing water droplets, spots, and streaks on dishes, and for improving drying performance. The dishwasher also incorporates a filtering system to remove food particles from the wash water, ensuring efficient cleaning and preventing blockages.
To operate the dishwasher, users first switch it on using the On/Off button. Detergent is then filled into the dispenser, with specific compartments for main wash and pre-wash detergents. The rinse aid dispenser also needs to be filled, and its level can be monitored via an optical indicator. Dishes are loaded into the upper and lower baskets, following guidelines to ensure proper cleaning and prevent damage. For instance, hollow items should be placed opening downwards, and sharp items like knives should be loaded with points down or horizontally in the upper basket. The height of the upper basket is adjustable to accommodate larger items.
After loading, a suitable wash program is selected using the Program Button. The dishwasher offers programs such as Intensive, Heavy, Normal, Glass, 1 Hour, and Rapid, each tailored for different soil levels and wash durations. Once a program is selected and the door is closed, the dishwasher starts automatically after a short delay.
Users can modify a running cycle if it has only been active for a short time, otherwise, the detergent dispenser may need refilling. Forgotten dishes can be added during a cycle by carefully opening the door, waiting for the spray arms to stop, adding the items, and then closing the door. At the end of a wash cycle, an audible buzzer signals completion. It is recommended to wait a few minutes before unloading the dishwasher to allow dishes to cool and dry better, starting with the lower basket to prevent water drips from the upper one.
Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance and longevity of the dishwasher. The filtering system, consisting of a coarse filter, a flat (main) filter, and a microfilter, should be cleaned regularly, ideally after each wash cycle, to remove trapped food particles. The entire filter assembly should be cleaned once a week.
The control panel and exterior of the dishwasher can be cleaned with a lightly dampened cloth and dried thoroughly. A good appliance polish wax can be used for the exterior. The door edges should be cleaned with a soft, warm, damp cloth, avoiding spray cleaners to protect electrical components and the door lock. Abrasive agents or paper towels should not be used on the door panel to prevent scratching.
The spray arms also require regular cleaning to prevent hard water chemicals from clogging the jets and bearings. The upper spray arm can be removed by rotating its nut clockwise, and the lower spray arm by pulling it upward. Both can be washed in soapy, warm water and cleaned with a soft brush.
For periods of non-use, especially in winter to protect against freezing, specific measures should be taken: cutting off electrical power, turning off and disconnecting the water supply, draining water from the inlet pipe and valve, and soaking up water from the sump with a sponge. This helps prevent ice formation and potential damage.
The door seals should be periodically cleaned with a damp sponge to prevent food residue from accumulating and causing odors. If the appliance is to be stored for a long time, it is recommended to run an empty wash cycle, remove the plug, turn off the water supply, and leave the door slightly ajar.
