Overview

This document is a user manual for the be quiet! DARK POWER PRO 10 Series power supplies, specifically models BQT P10-750W, BQT P10-650W, and BQT P10-550W.

The DARK POWER PRO 10 Series power supplies are designed for PC systems, offering high efficiency, stable voltage, and quiet operation. They are compatible with the latest ATX12V and EPS 12V specifications, making them suitable for powerful systems with high-performance graphics cards and fast processors.

Function Description:

The primary function of the DARK POWER PRO 10 power supply is to convert incoming AC current into stable DC current for various PC components. It provides multiple 12V rails for improved system reliability and supports PCI Express graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire configurations.

A key feature is the Overclocking Key, which allows users to group individual 12V rails into a single 12V rail. This function can be permanently enabled using a jumper directly on the power supply or activated on demand via a switch on a provided slot cover. An LED on the slot cover switch indicates when the overclocking function is active. It's important to only activate the Overclocking Key when the power supply is switched off and to only connect the provided key or jumper to the designated connector. Disabling this function when not needed is recommended for trouble-free operation.

The power supply also incorporates a thermally controlled fan system. This automatic control regulates the speed of the internal fan and any external case fans connected to the "FAN" sockets on the power supply. Fan speed adjusts based on the heat generated within the PC case and power supply. As temperatures rise, fans spin faster to ensure effective cooling, contributing to the longevity of components. The fan control system includes a start-up impulse, a short high-voltage burst, to ensure all connected case fans start reliably. Only one fan should be connected per cable, and external fans should not have their own thermal sensors or potentiometers.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Efficiency: Up to 93% (80 PLUS Gold certified). This high efficiency reduces power loss and heat generation, allowing for quieter fan operation.
  • Compliance: Meets current 2002/95/EG (RoHS and WEEE) directives of the European Union, ensuring environmentally conscious production and material use.
  • Voltage Stability: Offers best-of-class voltage stability for components, maintaining output voltages very close to optimal specifications, crucial for high-performance demands.
  • Fan Technology: Features 135 mm SilentWings USC series fans, known for extremely quiet operation due to case decoupling, optimized rotational speed, copper-core FDB bearings, flow-optimized fan blades, and high-quality IC motor control.
  • Connectors:
    • ATX 12V Version 2.31 + EPS 12V 2.92 compatible.
    • Up to nine 6-pin or 8-pin PCI Express connectors for graphics cards. It is recommended to use the same plug numbering for the same graphics card (e.g., VGA1 to graphic card 1 and VGA2 to graphic card 2).
    • Expandable 20/24-pin main motherboard connector, backward compatible with all current motherboard specifications. Note: Does not support motherboards requiring a -5V line or SOCKET A (462) motherboards.
    • Numerous Serial ATA (SATA) connectors.
  • Safety Functions: Equipped with multiple safeguards to protect the power supply and connected components:
    • OCP (Over Current Protection): Shuts off if load on individual circuits exceeds limits.
    • UVP (Under Voltage Protection): Triggers if voltage on circuits drops below a certain limit.
    • OVP (Over Voltage Protection): Triggers if voltage on circuits is too high.
    • SCP (Short Circuit Protection): Prevents defects from short circuits in secondary circuits.
    • OTP (Temperature Protection): Shuts off automatically if internal heat build-up is excessive, can only be restarted after cooling down.
    • OPP (Overload Protection): Triggers if total output exceeds maximum specified load, indicating insufficient power for the system.
  • Operating Conditions:
    • Operation Temperature: 10 ~ 40°C, up to 85% relative humidity (non-condensing).
    • Storage Temperature: -20 ~ 80°C, up to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing).
  • Minimal Load: Specifies minimum current draw for 3.3V, 5V, 12V1-12V4, -12V, and 5VSB rails.
  • Dimensions: 150mm (height) x 180mm (width) x 86mm (depth).
  • 12V Rails Splits (DPP P10):
    • 12V1: CPU1 & MB
    • 12V2: CPU2, SATA, HDD, FDD, 24-pin
    • 12V3: PCIE1, PCIE2
    • 12V4: PCIE3, PCIE4

Usage Features:

  • Installation: Requires a screwdriver and the provided screws. Users are instructed to first remove the old power supply, carefully disconnecting all cables and components, then install the new unit, securing it with four screws. Specific instructions are given for connecting the 20/24-pin motherboard connector and 12V-P4/P8 CPU connectors.
  • Troubleshooting: Provides guidance for common issues such as incorrect voltage readings (often due to imprecise motherboard measurements) and PC startup/crash problems after installing new graphics cards (potentially solved by enabling the Overclocking Key if the power supply is adequately dimensioned).
  • Accessories: Includes a cable management set, slot cover with Overclocking Key, jumper for permanent overclocking, mains lead, operating manual, cable ties, and mounting screws.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The power supply should be disconnected from the mains and cleaned externally with a dry cloth only. Damp cloths or cleaning agents should not be used. Opening the device voids the warranty.
  • Repair: Repairs should only be conducted by authorized personnel. Opening the device voids the warranty.
  • Warranty: Comes with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty for consumers (original purchase from authorized be quiet! dealers). An on-site replacement service is offered within the first 12 months after purchase in Germany and France. Warranty claims require the serial number and a copy of the purchase receipt. Opening the device, any manipulation, technical modifications, or damage from external mechanical force will void the warranty.
