Overview

This document is an operator's manual for a Model No.:71/16-421 Stapler, designed for 22Ga. Fine-Wire Staples. The manual emphasizes safety, proper usage, and maintenance to ensure efficient and safe operation.

Function Description:

The device is a pneumatic stapler, meaning it operates on compressed air to drive fine-wire staples into a workpiece. Its primary function is to fasten materials using 22-gauge fine-wire staples.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: 71/16-421
  • Staple Type: 22Ga. Fine-Wire Staples
  • Power Source: Compressed air only.
  • Operating Air Pressure Range: 70 p.s.i. to 100 p.s.i. (5 to 7 bar).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: Never to exceed 120 p.s.i. (8 bar).
  • Maximum Connection Pressure: Never to exceed 200 p.s.i. (14 bar) as the tool can burst.
  • Staple Crown Width: 0.36" (9mm)
  • Staple Leg Length: 6mm-16mm (1/4"-5/8")
  • Staple Shank Diameter: 0.75mm x 0.6mm (22 Ga.)

The manual also includes a detailed parts list and schematic for the stapler, identifying 50 individual components and a driver unit. Key components include various O-rings, bolts, covers, a body, cylinder, piston, trigger, and driver blade, among others.

Usage Features:

The manual provides critical safety instructions for using the stapler:

  • Read the Manual: Users must read and fully understand the instructions before operation.
  • Eye Protection: Safety glasses or goggles conforming to ANSI Z87.1 (Council Directive 89/686/EEC of 21 DEC.1989) are mandatory for both the operator and all personnel in the work area, providing frontal and side protection.
  • Power Source: Only an air compressor should be used. Operating with high-pressure gas or combustible gases like oxygen or acetylene is strictly prohibited due to explosion risk.
  • Air Pressure: The tool must be operated within the specified air pressure range of 70-100 p.s.i. and never above 120 p.s.i. Connecting to air pressure potentially exceeding 200 p.s.i. is dangerous.
  • Flammable Substances: Do not operate the tool near flammable substances (thinner, gasoline, etc.) as volatile fumes can be drawn into the compressor, leading to an explosion.
  • Fittings: Use only correct fittings that do not hold pressure when disconnected, preventing the tool from remaining charged with air and accidentally driving fasteners.
  • Trigger Discipline: Never touch the trigger unless intending to drive a fastener. Avoid walking around with the tool and the trigger pulled.
  • Discharge Outlet: Never point the discharge outlet toward oneself or other personnel to prevent serious accidents from misfiring. This applies during connection, disconnection, loading, and other operations.
  • Hand Placement: Keep hands and body away from the fastener discharge area during loading and use to avoid accidental injury.
  • Staple Compatibility: Only genuine nails recommended for this nailer should be used. Using other nails can cause malfunction and serious injuries.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines essential maintenance procedures:

  • Professional Servicing: All servicing and part replacements should ideally be performed by a professional technician.
  • Safety First: Always disconnect the air hose and remove nails from the nailer before performing any maintenance, inspection, or jam clearing.
  • Magazine Inspection:
    • Disconnect the air hose.
    • Clean the magazine to remove accumulated dust.
    • Lubricate the nailer rail with nailer lubricant.
  • Clearing a Jam:
    • Disconnect the air hose.
    • Remove all nails.
    • Use a slotted head screwdriver to remove the jammed nail.
    • If jams occur frequently, contact an authorized service center.
  • Qualified Personnel: Repair and maintenance should be performed by a qualified person.

General Warranty Conditions:

The warranty is honored only if:

  1. Clean, dry, regulated compressed air has been used, not exceeding the maximum indicated on the tool casting.
  2. There is no evidence of abuse, abnormal conditions, accident, neglect, misuse, improper modifications, or improper storage of the product.
  3. There are no deviations from recommended operating instructions, specifications, and maintenance schedules as outlined in the Operator Manual.

The manual was published in January 2013.
