Why does my Bissell Vacuum Cleaner have no suction power?
    • M
      Miranda HarperJul 29, 2025
A loss of suction power in your Bissell Vacuum Cleaner can occur due to several reasons. The dirty water tank may not be seated properly; ensure it's correctly fitted. The tank might be full, so empty it if it has reached the maximum fill line. Check the rubber tab on the dirty water tank to ensure it is sealed tightly. Also, verify that the accessory hose door is closed tightly and locked in place. The nozzle could be clogged with pet hair or debris; use the nozzle clean-out tool. Lastly, ensure the brush roll cover is fully snapped into place.

How to fix no spray through the hose and tool on my Bissell 1986?
    • J
      James SmithAug 3, 2025
If there is no spray through the hose and tool of your Bissell Vacuum Cleaner, the hose to your machine is not primed or may have lost prime. With the machine OFF and unplugged, remove the Nozzle from the Foot. Place a ballpoint pen in the black cylinder next to the screw. When water bubbles up, remove the pen. Reassemble the Nozzle and hose. Hold the end of the hose below the water level in the tank to prime it. With the Clean Water Tank full of water, the machine OFF and reclined, press the CleanShot button ON and wait for the CleanShot to drain for a few seconds; this will re-prime the machine. Also, the Clean Water Tank may be empty, so refill it. Ensure the Clean Water Tank is seated properly by turning the power OFF and reseating the tank.

If there is no spray through the CleanShot on your Bissell Vacuum Cleaner, first, ensure the Clean Water Tank is not empty and refill it if needed. Next, check that the Clean Water Tank is seated properly; turn the power OFF, then remove and reseat the tank. Make sure the machine is reclined by pressing the Recline Pedal and bringing the handle down. If the pump may have lost prime, with the machine OFF and unplugged, remove the Nozzle from the Foot. Place a ballpoint pen in the black cylinder next to the screw. When water bubbles up, remove the pen. Reassemble the nozzle before cleaning again.
