Why won't my Bissell 24613 Vacuum Cleaner pick up dirt?

Several factors can cause this. The filters might be dirty, so remove and rinse the Pre-Motor Filters, allowing them to dry before reinserting, and dust off the Post-Motor Filter. There could be a clog in the vacuum; remove the bottom cover to check for and remove any debris buildup before reinstalling. Ensure the Dirt Tank is correctly seated by releasing and reseating it. Inspect the Main Hose for cracks or holes; if found, order a replacement from the BISSELL website. Also, make sure the Main Hose is connected properly by pushing the hose connection. Check the Lower Hose for clogs, disconnecting it and using a broom handle to push out any debris. Finally, if hair is wrapped around the Brush Roll, run the vacuum back and forth on clean carpet to release it.

What to do if my Bissell 24613 brush roll doesn’t rotate?

      Alyssa SmithAug 15, 2025
First, ensure the Brush Roll switch is turned ON. If the vacuum is locked in the upright position, recline it and switch the Brush Roll ON. If you're vacuuming on Premium Soft Carpet, adjust the Suction Control to reduce suction. Lastly, the Brush Roll may have debris or entanglements; unplug the vacuum to reset the brush motor, check for and remove any debris before turning it ON.

      Ronald CarterAug 22, 2025
This could be happening because the Dirt Tank is full, so empty it. Also, check to ensure all Pre-Motor and Post-Motor Filters are in place and clean.

This could be due to a clog in the vacuum. Check inside the Main Hose and Lower Hose for clogs by disconnecting them from the vacuum.
