2.2 Components
2.2.1 F RONT P ANEL
Figure 2-1 and Table 2-1 identify the Modem Router Switch’s front-panel
components. The 40418 has 12 RJ-11 ports on its front panel.

Component Function
PROG ports The two ports labeled PROG 1 and PROG 2
program the optional Security Selection Key.
The port labeled PROG 1 is used to enter the
password when the system is in the Touch-tone
MODE, without the Security Selection Key. A
standard telephone handset is required.
TELCO ports The two RJ-11 ports labeled TELCO connect to
the Telephone Central Office line.
SWITCHED PORTS (1–8) The remaining eight ports, labeled
SWITCHED PORTS (1–8), are the ports to
which the incoming calls can be switched.
