Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the use, installation, and maintenance of Blanco built-in hot plates, specifically models CG905WXC and CG905WXFFC. These appliances are designed for domestic use and feature a modern aesthetic that integrates well with kitchen décor.

Function Description

The Blanco built-in hot plates are gas cooking appliances equipped with multiple burners to facilitate various cooking needs. The models described are 5-burner hot plates, including a wok burner, rapid gas burner, semi-rapid gas burners (front and rear), and an auxiliary gas burner. Each burner has a specific power rating and recommended pan diameter for optimal efficiency. The appliance is designed to be easy to use, providing high performance while adhering to environmental considerations.

Usage Features

The hot plates offer both manual and electrical ignition options. For manual ignition, users push and turn the corresponding knob anticlockwise to the full on position (indicated by a large flame symbol), then apply a lighted match near the burner. For electrical ignition, the process is similar, but an ignition button is depressed and released. Some burners are equipped with a flame failure device, requiring the knob to be held depressed for about 10 seconds after ignition to ensure the burner remains lit. It is crucial to ensure the flame divider (burner cap) is correctly placed before attempting to light a burner. If a burner flame accidentally extinguishes, the control should be turned off, and no attempt should be made to re-ignite it for at least one minute.

To maximize efficiency and minimize gas consumption, users are advised to use appropriate pan sizes for each burner, as detailed in a provided table. Once food comes to a boil, the knob should be set to the reduced rate position (small flame symbol). Always use pans with a flat bottom, made of thick metal, and keep them covered with a lid.

The appliance is designed for domestic use only and should not be modified. It is essential to ensure proper ventilation in the room where the appliance is installed, either by keeping natural air vents clear or by activating a mechanical aeration device like a suction hood or electric fan. Intensive or lengthy use may require additional ventilation, such as opening a window or increasing the power of the mechanical exhausting system.

Several warnings are highlighted for safe operation:

  • Burners with flame failure devices must only be ignited when the knob is set to the "Full on" position.
  • Matches can be used for ignition during a blackout.
  • The appliance should never be left unattended when in use, especially with children nearby.
  • Pan handles must be correctly positioned to prevent accidents.
  • Foods cooked with oil or grease require close monitoring due to fire risk.
  • The appliance should not be used by individuals with impaired mental or physical capacities, or those without experience, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible adult. Children should not be allowed to play with the equipment.
  • Aerosols should never be used near the appliance during operation.
  • If the hot plate has a lid, any spilled food must be removed before opening it. If it has a glass lid, all burners must be switched off before closing the lid to prevent shattering from heat.
  • Flammable liquids or items should not be stored near the hot plate.
  • For PROPANE appliances installed in marine craft or caravans, the appliance should not be used as a space heater.
  • Containers wider than the unit are recommended for stability.

Abnormal operation, such as yellow tipping of burner flames, sooting of cooking utensils, improper ignition, burners failing to remain alight, burners extinguished by cupboard doors, or difficult-to-turn gas valves, indicates a need for servicing.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and preventative maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Blanco hot plates. Before any cleaning operation, the appliance must be disconnected from both gas and electricity mains.

Cleaning the Hot Plate: The hot plate, enamelled steel pan supports, enamelled burner caps ("C"), and burner heads ("T") should be washed periodically with lukewarm soapy water. All parts must be thoroughly rinsed and dried. Abrasive powders should not be used, and parts should never be washed while still warm. To prevent damage to enamelled surfaces, avoid prolonged contact with vinegar, coffee, milk, salted water, lemon, or tomato juice.

Warnings for Reassembly:

  • Ensure burner head slots ("T") are not clogged.
  • Verify that enamelled burner caps ("C") are correctly positioned and steady on the burner heads.
  • Pan supports should be positioned with their rounded corners towards the side edge of the hot plate.
  • Do not force taps if they are stiff; contact technical assistance for repairs.
  • Steam jets should not be used for cleaning the cooktop.

Care & Maintenance for Stainless Steel:

  • Always keep stainless steel surfaces free from contact with acid or acid-based solvents (liquid or vapour).
  • After installation, wipe all stainless steel products with a soft damp cloth to remove dirt (e.g., cement dust) or condensation marks.
  • For persistent marks, immediately clean affected areas with a stainless steel cleaner, using a clean damp soft cloth, then rinse thoroughly to remove all marks and cleaner residue.

Preventative Maintenance: Ongoing maintenance is generally not required if the following are ensured:

  • All spillages are cleaned up immediately.
  • Burners are kept clean.
  • Burner ports are free of debris, food, or any obstructions.
  • Electrode and thermocouples are kept clean.
  • Burners are re-assembled correctly.
  • Water is kept away from the injector areas.

Adjustments: Any adjustments must be performed by a qualified technician after disconnecting the appliance from the electricity supply. All seals must be replaced by the technician after adjustments. The burners do not require primary air adjustment.

The "Reduced rate" adjustment for gas flow involves:

  1. Switching on the burner and turning the knob to the "Reduced rate" position.
  2. Removing the knob ("M") from the tap.
  3. Inserting a small screwdriver ("D") into hole "C" and turning the throttle screw to adjust the burner flame to the desired "Reduced rate" position.
  4. Checking that the flame does not extinguish when the knob is sharply switched from "Full on" to "Reduced rate." This adjustment applies only to burners operating with Natural gas. For PROPANE gas, the screw must be fully locked.

Gas Conversions: Detailed procedures are provided for converting the appliance from Propane Gas to Natural Gas and vice versa. This involves replacing main injectors with appropriate sizes for each burner, fitting the correct gas regulator, adjusting gas pressure, and modifying the by-pass injector settings. A new data label must be fitted after conversion. These procedures must be carried out by authorized personnel.

Servicing: Servicing, including component replacement and greasing of taps, must only be carried out by authorized personnel. Before any maintenance requiring component replacement, the electrical lead must be isolated and removed from the power point. To access internal components, pan supports, burners, burner fixing screws, and control knobs must be removed. It is advisable to change the seal ("D") each time a tap is changed to ensure a perfect seal.

Greasing taps involves removing the tap, cleaning the cone and housing with a solvent-soaked cloth, lightly spreading grease on the cone, fitting and operating the cone several times, removing it again to eliminate excess grease, and checking for clogged gas ducts. All parts are then reassembled, and tightness is checked using soapy water (the use of flame is prohibited).

A chart is provided to assist servicing technicians with information on powering cable types, sections, and electrical component ratings. If the power supply cable is replaced, the installer should ensure the ground wire is longer than the phase conductors.
