WARNING
Improper installation, adjustment, alteration,
service or maintenance can cause serious injury or
property damage. Refer to this manual. For
assistance or additional information, consult a
qualified installer or service agency.
WARNING
Install in accordance with all local codes. In the
absence of local codes, refer to NFPA 54 or ANSI
Z21.10.3.
CAUTION
The recommended temperature for normal
residential use is 120°F. The dial on the aquastat
does not always reflect the out-coming water
temperature and it could occasionally exceed 120°F.
Variation in out-coming temperature could be
based on factors including but not limited to usage
patterns and type of installation. Test water at the
tap nearest to the water heater. See page 37 for
measuring the out- coming water temperature.
WARNING
Hotter water increases the risk of scald injury.
Before adjusting the water temperature setting,
read this instruction manual. Temperatures at
which injury occurs vary with the persons age and
the length of exposure. The slower reaction time of
children, elderly or physically or mentally
challenged persons increases the scalding hazard to
them. It is recommended that lower water tempera-
tures be used where these exposure hazards exist.
Households with small children or invalids may
require a temperature setting less than 120°F to
prevent accidental contact with hot water. To
produce less than 120°F, use point-of-use
temperature limiting devices.
!
!
!
!
If higher water temperature is needed in part of the
water system, automatic temperature limiting
devices must be used on all lines to water taps.
WARNING
Water heater blankets may restrict air flow to the
water heater and cause fire, asphyxiation, personal
injury or death.

Why is my Bock Water Heater not producing enough hot water?
    • D
      Donna ShortAug 15, 2025
If your Bock Water Heater isn't providing enough hot water, it might be due to several reasons. First, the heater might be too small for your needs, in which case, try reducing how much hot water you use. The temperature setting could also be too low; adjust it as needed. Also, check the display for any error codes and refer to the corresponding tables for guidance.

What to do if the T&P relief valve is gushing hot water in my Bock Water Heater?
    • C
      cynthiawagnerAug 18, 2025
If the T&P relief valve on your Bock Water Heater is gushing hot water, it indicates an excessive temperature condition in the tank (greater than 210°F). Lower the temperature setting on the control. Consult the manual for instructions on how to adjust the temperature.

How to troubleshoot a Bock Water Heater when the burner won't light?
    • B
      brownedgarAug 26, 2025
If you're unable to light the burner on your Bock Water Heater, start by checking the display for any error codes and refer to the corresponding tables. Air in the gas line could be the problem, in which case you should contact a qualified agency to purge the air from the gas line. Also, a loose wire connection could be the culprit, so contact a qualified agency to inspect the wiring.

Why is the T&P relief valve dripping water on my Bock Water Heater?
    • D
      Diane KleinAug 28, 2025
If the T&P relief valve on your Bock Water Heater is dripping water, it suggests an excessive pressure condition in the tank (greater than 150 psi). Contact a qualified agency to inspect the water piping system. Expansion tanks are required in closed systems.

What causes rumbling noise in my Bock Water Heater tank and how to fix it?
    • C
      Carl BergAug 31, 2025
If you hear a rumbling noise in the tank of your Bock Water Heater during burner operation, it's likely due to scale or sediment build-up in the tank. Drain the water heater to remove the scale and sediment.

    • K
      Kimberly ReedSep 4, 2025

What does error code E36 mean on my Bock Water Heater?
    • D
      Diane CobbSep 7, 2025
When the Bock Water Heater displays error code E36, it means that the blocked vent circuit is open. The intake or exhaust vent is blocked, so inspect and clean it. There may be faulty or loose wiring to switches, so check blue and yellow wires. Excessive wind or room draft is creating high pressures.

What does error code E38 mean on my Bock Water Heater?
    • D
      Daryl MorrisonSep 12, 2025
When the Bock Water Heater displays error code E38, the gas supply pressure is too low. Low supply pressure or undersized piping! see manual. Gas supply is turned off. Pressure drop due to other appliances on the same supply line. Faulty or loose wiring to switch, so check black/yellow wires.

Why is the LED status flashing red on my Bock Water Heater?
    • C
      Christopher RobersonNov 21, 2025
If the LED status on your Bock Water Heater is flashing red, it could be due to several reasons. It may indicate an error occurred during start-up. Reset the power to the anode power supply by resetting the power supply to the water heater. The tank might not be filled with water, so disconnect the water heater from the power supply and fill the tank with water. Check the insulation on all connecting harnesses for bare spots and check the connections at the power supply and anode terminals due to poor electrical connection between anode power supply and anode rod. Polarity may be reversed due to incorrect wiring, so refer to the wiring diagram and correct polarity. There may be a defective seal in anode bushing, with the anode rod no longer insulated from the tank. With an ohmmeter, check ...
