Overview

This document describes the Bogner 2-in-1 Espresso + Drip Coffee Maker, model BDECM02, designed for household use. It functions as both an espresso machine and a drip coffee maker, offering versatility for different coffee preferences.

Function Description:

The device is a dual-purpose coffee maker capable of brewing both espresso and drip coffee. For espresso, it features a 20-bar pressure system, ideal for extracting rich flavors. For drip coffee, it has a 12-cup capacity. It includes a steam function for frothing milk, allowing users to prepare lattes, cappuccinos, and other milk-based coffee drinks. The machine also has a hot water function for various uses like warming cups or making tea. A programmable timer allows users to set specific times for drip coffee brewing.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Pressure: 20 Bar for espresso.
  • Water Tank Capacity: 1.5 liters (approximately 50 ounces or 0.3 gallons).
  • Power: 850W for espresso, 1000W for drip coffee.
  • Voltage: 127V~60Hz.
  • Body Material: Stainless steel.
  • Drip Coffee Capacity: 12 cups.
  • Display: LED digital display for time and temperature programming.
  • Safety Features: Pressure releasing security system, auto shut-off function, anti-drip function.
  • Additional Features: Cup warming plate (preheating base for cup).

Usage Features:

General Operation (Before First Use):

  1. Fill the water tank with cold or room temperature water, ensuring the level does not exceed the "Max" mark.
  2. Connect the power cord to a grounded electrical outlet.
  3. Press the ON/OFF button for espresso. The indicator light will flash.
  4. Turn the steam knob to release water and clean the system. Turn it off once water stops flowing.
  5. The machine will preheat for about 2 minutes; the indicator light will stop flashing and remain steady when preheating is complete.
  6. For initial cleaning, run the machine twice with only water (no coffee) to remove any odors.

Espresso Brewing:

  1. After preheating, press the espresso button. The indicator light will flash.
  2. Allow hot water to run through to clean the filter or cup. Press the button again to stop.
  3. During preheating, add ground coffee (not too coarse or too fine) to the metal filter. Use the measuring spoon to compress and flatten the coffee. Clean any excess coffee from the filter edge.
  4. Insert and lock the portafilter (funnel) into place.
  5. Place a coffee cup under the portafilter.
  6. Once the indicator light is steady, press the espresso button. Coffee will begin to flow. Adjust the cup position to ensure coffee flows along the cup's wall.
  7. Press the espresso button again to stop the flow once the desired amount is reached.

Milk Frothing:

  1. Prepare espresso first.
  2. Press the steam button. The steam indicator light will flash until preheating is complete.
  3. Fill a jug (about 1/3 full) with cold whole milk. The recommended diameter for the jug is less than 70±5mm, and it should be tall enough to accommodate the milk doubling in volume.
  4. Insert the steam nozzle about 1cm deep into the milk.
  5. Slowly turn the steam knob counter-clockwise until steam starts to spray out. Move the jug up and down to froth the milk.
  6. Once the milk volume has approximately doubled, turn off the steam knob and the steam button simultaneously (clockwise direction).
  7. Immediately clean the steam nozzle with a wet towel and spray steam again to prevent dry milk from blocking the air outlet.
  8. Pour the frothed milk over your espresso. Note: If the steam indicator light flashes quickly, it indicates a high temperature. Use the hot water function to cool it down if needed.

Hot Water Function:

  1. Press the hot water button. The machine will start warming up, and the coffee button's corresponding light will flash.
  2. After preheating, the coffee indicator light will remain steady.
  3. Press the coffee button and rotate the steam knob counter-clockwise. Hot water will come out through the steam tube.
  4. Once finished, press the coffee button again to stop the flow and rotate the steam tube clockwise to OFF.
  5. Finally, press the hot water button to turn off the machine.

Drip Coffee Brewing:

  1. Ensure the water tank has enough water.
  2. Add a maximum of 2 spoons of coffee powder (not too fine or too much) into the filter and insert the funnel into its place.
  3. Press the drip coffee ON/OFF button. The corresponding indicator light will light up, and the machine will start brewing.
  4. Once brewing is complete, remove the glass jar and press the drip coffee ON/OFF button to turn off the machine.

Additional Functions:

  • Setting Current Time: Press the "PROG" button until "TIMER" lights up. Use "HR" and "MIN" buttons to set the current time.
  • Timer Function (Scheduled Drip Coffee): Press the "PROG" button until "CLOCK" lights up. Use "HR" and "MIN" buttons to set the desired brewing time. Press "PROG" again until a blue indicator light illuminates. The drip coffee function will automatically start at the set time.

Maintenance Features:

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  1. Always turn off, unplug, and allow the machine to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the coffee machine and accessories with a damp cloth or sponge. Note: Do not use alcohol or solvent cleaners, and never immerse the machine in water.
  3. Unscrew the coffee funnel and clean the coffee inside the filter.
  4. Wash all detachable components and ensure they are thoroughly dried before reassembling.
  5. Regularly clean the coffee maker to ensure optimal coffee quality and extend its lifespan.

Troubleshooting:

  • No water when making coffee: Check water tank level, ensure water has been pumped out (press coffee button and turn steam knob), or ensure machine is preheated.
  • No steam: Steam outlet hole might be blocked (use a small wire to clear), or steam pipe needs cleaning with hot water after foaming.
  • Machine not working (hot water/steam lights on, others off): Steam switch might not be off; turn it to OFF.
  • Milk not frothing well: Use whole milk, ensure machine is preheated (steam indicator light changes from flashing to constant).
  • Coffee dripping from funnel/filter: Coffee powder might be too fine or too much (use correct grind and no more than 3 tablespoons).
  • If problems persist, contact a certified service center; do not attempt self-repair.

Environmental Disposal:

  • Dispose of non-working electrical equipment at an appropriate waste disposal center, respecting local regulations.
