Do you have a question about the BOOMLIGHTS LC-1X and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Boomlights LC-1X is a single-channel RGB LED and DMX lighting controller designed for musicians to integrate synchronized lighting into their performances. It allows for the creation of custom automated light shows using MIDI, without requiring additional hardware or software.

Function Description

The LC-1X controls one RGB channel using three MIDI notes. Each individual RGB color (red, green, blue) is assigned to a specific MIDI note. MIDI velocity is used to control the brightness or intensity of these RGB colors. By combining MIDI notes within an RGB channel group and adjusting their velocities, users can create a wide array of colors within the RGB spectrum. The unit can drive any 12V common anode RGB LED strip and/or DMX lights. All connected LED strips and DMX lights will display the same color, as the unit outputs a single DMX signal chain (universe). The front panel features an indicator light that previews the color output, even if no lights are connected, which is useful for programming light shows.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Controls: 2x DIP Switch Arrays (one for MIDI Channel/DMX, one for MIDI Note)
  • Indicators: Power / Output Colour Indicator Light
  • Connectors: DC12V Input, MIDI Thru, MIDI Input, LED Output, DMX Output
  • Power Supply: DC12V 2A 90~240VAC (supplied)
  • Maximum Current Draw: 2A (for connected LED strips)
  • Dimensions: 2.5" x 2.5" x 1.625" (64 mm x 64 mm x 41 mm)
  • Weight: 0.23 lbs (0.1 kg)
  • LED Strip Compatibility: 12V common anode RGB LED strips, up to 96 inches in length. Exceeding this length may cause the unit to power off due to an internal resettable fuse.
  • DMX Output: DMX 512 data to connected DMX lights. The LC-1X is configured to transmit DMX data to specific addresses, primarily channel 20 for RGB color parameters, but can accommodate other configurations. It controls red, green, blue, and overall brightness DMX channels.
  • MIDI Notes: Responds to 3 MIDI notes per RGB channel group. Default MIDI notes are 0, 1, and 2 (C-2, C#-2, D-2) for green, red, and blue respectively.
  • MIDI Channel: Default MIDI channel is 1.

Usage Features

  • Plug and Play: Designed for seamless integration with existing hardware or software setups.
  • Default Setup: Comes pre-configured with MIDI notes 0, 1, and 2 controlling green, red, and blue, and a default MIDI channel of 1.
  • Color Combinations: Users can create various colors by simultaneously illuminating combinations of green, red, and blue. MIDI velocity adjusts brightness/intensity, allowing for additional shades and colors.
  • DMX Control: Simplifies DMX setup by controlling all daisy-chained DMX lights with the same signal output, treating them as a single "universe." It focuses on controlling the red, green, blue, and overall brightness parameters of DMX lights.
  • Customizable MIDI Notes: DIP switches on the bottom of the unit allow users to change which MIDI notes the unit responds to. The first MIDI note set controls green, and the subsequent two notes control red and blue.
  • Customizable MIDI Channel: DIP switches also allow users to change the MIDI channel the unit responds to.
  • Linking Multiple Units: Multiple LC-1X units can be linked together using the "MIDI In" and "MIDI Thru" connectors. This allows for independent control of multiple LED strips and/or DMX universes by assigning different MIDI note ranges to each unit.

Maintenance Features

  • Safety Instructions: Emphasizes storing the unit in a moisture-free area, operating below 113°F, using only the supplied power supply, ensuring the power cord is not pinched, and plugging into an appropriate voltage source.
  • DIP Switch Changes: All changes to DIP switches (MIDI note or MIDI channel) must be made while the unit is powered off, as settings are only checked during start-up.
  • Troubleshooting: Provides solutions for common issues such as the unit not responding to new DIP switch settings (ensure power off during change, check switch positions) and DMX lights not illuminating (check DMX cable connection, verify DMX light base address is set to 20, or contact support for alternative DMX configurations).
  • Current Limit Protection: Features an internal resettable fuse that powers off the unit if the connected LED strip exceeds the 2A current limit (e.g., over 96 inches), protecting the device. The unit will power back up once the excessive load is removed.
