Overview

This document provides installation and operating instructions for the Bosch 10P Continuous Flow Gas Water Heater. It covers essential information for proper setup, safe operation, and routine maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description

The Bosch 10P is a continuous flow gas water heater designed to provide hot water on demand. Unlike storage water heaters, it heats water only when a hot water tap is opened, ensuring an endless supply of hot water and potentially reducing energy consumption by not maintaining a stored volume of hot water at a constant temperature. The appliance uses gas combustion to heat water as it flows through a heat exchanger. It is designed for external wall installation and requires connections for cold water inlet, hot water supply, and gas inlet, along with a horizontal flue for exhaust. The unit incorporates controls for adjusting water temperature and includes safety features for reliable operation.

Usage Features

To operate the Bosch 10P, users first need to ensure that all hot water taps are open to expel any air from the system before lighting. The appliance is started by pressing and holding a button, then pressing an igniter button after a few seconds. If the pilot flame does not light, the ignition procedure should be repeated. Once the pilot is lit, the main burner can be turned on by pressing the "ON" button.

Water temperature adjustment is a key feature, allowing users to customize the hot water output. A water temperature selector knob is located inside the water heater, immediately below the gas controls. Turning this knob clockwise increases the water temperature (which also decreases water flow), while turning it anti-clockwise reduces the water temperature (increasing water flow). It is important to turn the hot water tap on fully when using the appliance to ensure proper operation.

For extended periods when hot water is not needed, the appliance can be shut off by pressing the "OFF" button. A crucial safety warning advises users to wait 5 minutes before attempting to relight the appliance if the pilot light is extinguished. If the appliance malfunctions, such as burning with a yellow flame, leaking water, or emitting a gas smell, it should be turned off immediately, and a local gas authority, the manufacturer, or an authorized service person should be contacted. When lighting the appliance, all hot water taps must be turned off.

The appliance is designed to be installed and serviced only by an authorized person, emphasizing the importance of professional handling for safety and optimal performance. It is explicitly stated that this appliance is not suitable for use as a pool heater.

Maintenance Features

Proper installation is critical for the long-term performance and safety of the Bosch 10P. It must be installed on an external wall, as close as possible to the most frequently used hot tap. A heat shield is recommended if the unit is installed on a combustible surface, with a minimum air gap of 10 mm between the flue and the heat shield. The flue terminal must be clear of any combustible material, and installation in a marine environment should be avoided. The appliance base should be installed between 0.5 and 1.3 meters from the ground to allow for easy service access. It is secured to the wall using wood screws in the keyhole of the top mounting bracket.

Pipe connections for hot and cold water, as well as gas, are essential. A gas cock must be installed in the gas supply line to allow for disconnection, and a gate valve or full flow ball valve should be installed in the cold water supply. A non-return valve must not be fitted. Lagging hot water pipes is recommended, especially for long or exposed runs, and waterproof lagging should be used on all external hot water pipes. If water supply pressure exceeds 80% of the specified maximum, a pressure limiting valve should be installed, along with a cold expansion valve between the limiting valve and the appliance. Incorrect pipe sizing will void the warranty.

A water filter/strainer is installed at the inlet of the brass water valve inside the appliance. If sludge or foreign matter is present or anticipated in the water supply, a suitable filter should be incorporated into the water supply line to the heater, and all pipes should be thoroughly flushed before connection.

Commissioning involves adjusting the gas inlet pressure and gas burner pressure. This process requires removing a sealing screw, attaching a manometer, lighting the heater, and adjusting the gas pressure regulator to the specified kPa for NG or LPG. Similarly, burner pressure adjustment involves loosening a captive screw, attaching a manometer, opening the hot water tap fully, and adjusting the pressure by turning a knurled wheel. These adjustments ensure the appliance operates efficiently and safely according to specifications.

For areas where atmospheric temperatures may drop below 0°C, the heater must be drained to prevent damage from freezing water. For brief periods below 0°C, an EXOGEL expansion valve can minimize damage. However, the water heater MUST NOT be installed in areas where temperatures remain below 0°C for extended periods.

Regular maintenance is recommended to ensure the appliance's longevity and efficient operation. Bosch advises that the appliance be inspected and cleaned by an authorized person periodically, depending on its frequency and duration of operation, but never less than once a year. This routine inspection helps identify and address potential issues before they escalate, contributing to the overall reliability and safety of the water heater. The manual also includes a comprehensive fault-finding guide, listing common problems, possible causes, and corresponding solutions, which can be helpful for troubleshooting.
