Overview

This document describes the Bosch Microwave Oven models BEL524MSO, BEL523MSO, BEL524MBO, and BEL524M.0, providing a comprehensive user manual and installation instructions.

Function Description

The Bosch Microwave Oven is designed for preparing meals and drinks in private households. It operates as a Group 2, Class B product, meaning it produces microwaves for heating food and is suitable for domestic environments. The appliance offers various heating types, including microwave-only operation, grill, and a combination of microwave and grill (MicroCombi).

The microwave function is suitable for defrosting, cooking, or heating food and liquids. The grill function allows for browning or gratinating food, such as steak, sausages, toast, bakes, and gratins. The MicroCombi mode combines grill and microwave functions to reduce cooking times.

The appliance features automatic programs for defrosting meat, poultry, and bread, as well as cooking rice, potatoes, and vegetables. These programs automatically select optimum settings based on food type and weight. A memory function allows users to save custom settings for frequently prepared dishes, making it convenient to recall and start operations.

The control panel includes touch fields for selecting functions and a rotary selector for setting values like time, cooking duration, and program parameters. An automatic door opener provides easy access to the cooking compartment. A cooling fan operates as needed to manage internal temperatures, even after the oven is switched off.

Usage Features

Control and Operation: The appliance is controlled via a touch-sensitive control panel and a rotary selector. The display shows the clock, cooking time, and program information.

  • Setting the Time: After initial power-up or a power cut, the clock needs to be set. The display will show "12:00" and an indicator light will illuminate. The rotary selector is used to adjust the time.
  • Microwave Power Settings: Users can select from various microwave power settings (90W, 180W, 360W, 600W, 800W) depending on the task:
    • 90W: Defrost delicate foods.
    • 180W: Defrost food and continue cooking.
    • 360W: Cook meat and fish, or heat delicate foods.
    • 600W: Heat and cook food.
    • 800W: Heat liquids.
  • Grill Operation: The grill can be used independently or in combination with microwave mode. The cooking time for the grill can be adjusted using the rotary selector.
  • MicroCombi Mode: To combine grill and microwave, users select a microwave power setting (90W, 180W, or 360W), and the display will show a default cooking time of "1:00 min."
  • Automatic Programs:
    • Defrosting: Programs P01-P04 are available for minced meat, pieces of meat, chicken, and bread. Users select the program and enter the food's weight.
    • Cooking: Programs P05-P07 are for rice, potatoes, and vegetables. Users select the program, enter the food's weight, and add water as instructed.
    • Combi-cooking: Program P08 is for frozen bakes, combining microwave and grill functions.
  • Memory Function: This feature allows saving a specific set of cooking parameters (microwave power and duration) for a dish. To save, press "M," set the desired power and duration, then press "start" to save and begin, or "M" again to save without starting. To start a saved memory, press "M" and then "start."
  • Pausing and Cancelling Operations: Operations can be paused by pressing "stop" or opening the door. To resume, close the door and press "start." Operations can be cancelled by pressing "stop" twice, or by opening the door and pressing "stop" once.
  • Basic Settings: The appliance allows customization of basic settings, such as button tone (On/Off) and demo mode (On/Off). The signal duration can also be adjusted between short and long. The clock can be hidden to reduce standby power consumption.

Cookware and Accessories:

  • Microwave-safe Cookware: Heat-resistant materials like glass, glass ceramic, porcelain, temperature-resistant plastic, and fully glazed ceramic without cracks are suitable. Metal cutlery can be used to prevent delayed boiling in liquids, but metal containers are not suitable for microwave-only operation.
  • Not Microwave-safe Cookware: Metal cookware and cookware with gold or silver decoration (unless certified microwave-safe by the manufacturer) are not suitable for microwave-only use.
  • Cookware Test: An empty cookware test can be performed to check suitability. The appliance is run at maximum microwave power for 30-60 seconds. If the cookware remains cold or warm, it is suitable. If it becomes hot or sparks are created, it is not.
  • Accessories: The appliance comes with a wire rack, which is used for grilling and browning, with cookware placed on it.

Safety and Environmental Considerations:

  • Food Preparation: Always ensure food is placed in microwave-safe containers. Avoid heating tightly sealed containers, eggs in shells, or foods with unbroken peels/skins without pricking them first. Stir or shake baby food and check its temperature before serving.
  • Overheating Prevention: Never operate the microwave without food inside, except for the cookware test. Avoid excessively high microwave power or long cooking times. Allow the appliance to cool between uses, especially when preparing multiple batches of microwave popcorn.
  • Material Damage Prevention: Do not use metal containers during microwave-only operation. Keep metal objects at least 2 cm away from cooking compartment walls and the inner door pane. Do not remove the microwave feed cover or the transparent film on the inside of the door.
  • Energy Saving: Open the appliance door as little as possible during operation to maintain temperature. Hiding the clock in standby mode also saves energy.
  • Disposal: Packaging materials are environmentally friendly and recyclable. Old appliances should be disposed of in an environmentally sound manner, following local regulations.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Servicing: Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining the appliance's efficiency and longevity.

  • General Cleaning Products: Only use suitable cleaning products. Avoid harsh, abrasive, or high-alcohol content detergents, hard scouring pads, and sharp metal scrapers. Glass cleaners, glass scrapers, or stainless steel care products should only be used as recommended.
  • Cleaning the Appliance:
    • Cooking Compartment: Clean with hot soapy water or a vinegar solution. For heavy soiling, use oven cleaner when the compartment is cold. To eliminate odors, heat a cup of water with lemon juice for 1-2 minutes at maximum microwave power, then wipe with a soft cloth. Leave the door open to dry.
    • Turntable: Remove the turntable and clean it with hot soapy water and a soft dish cloth, then dry and reinsert, ensuring it engages correctly.
    • Front of the Appliance: Clean with hot soapy water and a dish cloth. For stainless steel fronts, apply a thin layer of stainless steel cleaning product with a soft cloth.
    • Control Panel: Clean with a microfibre cloth or a soft, damp cloth. Avoid wet cloths.
    • Accessories: Clean thoroughly with soapy water and a soft dish cloth. For wire racks, use stainless steel cleaner or a dishwasher.
    • Door Panels: Clean with a soft dish cloth and glass cleaner. Do not use glass scrapers.
  • Cleaning Aid: A cleaning aid function softens dirt by vaporizing soapy water. Add a few drops of washing-up liquid to a cup of water with a spoon, place it in the compartment, set microwave power to 600W for three minutes, then wipe out the compartment with a soft cloth after the cycle.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for rectifying minor faults.

  • Appliance Not Working: Check if the mains plug is connected, the circuit breaker is faulty, or if there has been a power cut.
  • Food Takes Longer to Heat: Check if the microwave power setting is too low, if a larger amount of food was placed, or if the food is colder than usual.
  • Turntable Grates/Grinds: Clean the roller ring and recess in the cooking compartment for dirt or foreign objects.
  • Microwave Mode Cancelled: This indicates an appliance fault. If it recurs, contact customer service.
  • Appliance Not in Operation, Cooking Time Shown: This means the settings area was accidentally activated or "start" was not pressed. Press "stop" or "start" to resolve.
  • Three Zeros Flash: This indicates a power cut. Reset the time.
  • "M" Shown on Display: Demo mode is activated.
  • "E 3" Message: Fault in the automatic door opening system. Switch off, wait 10 minutes, then switch on again. If it recurs, contact customer service.

Customer Service: Contact customer service for queries, unresolvable faults, or repairs. The product number (E-Nr.) and production number (FD) from the rating plate (visible when the door is open) are required for service inquiries.
