Overview

This document describes the Bosch Extractor Hood models DDD96AM60, DDD97BM69, and DDD97BM60B, providing comprehensive information on its function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Bosch Extractor Hood is designed for domestic use to remove cooking fumes, odors, and vapors from the kitchen environment. It operates in two primary modes:

  1. Exhaust Air Mode: In this mode, air is drawn into the appliance, cleaned by metal grease filters, and then discharged to the exterior via a pipe system. This mode requires proper ventilation to the outside and adherence to local building regulations regarding exhaust air discharge. It's crucial not to discharge exhaust air into flues used for other fuel-burning appliances. For external wall discharge, a telescopic wall box is recommended.

  2. Air Recirculation Mode: Here, the drawn-in air is cleaned by both metal grease filters and an activated carbon filter before being returned to the kitchen. This mode is ideal when external venting is not possible. An activated carbon filter is essential for odor binding in this mode. The electronic controller's display needs to be switched to the correct mode (circulating-air or exhaust air) during initial setup.

The appliance is designed to operate only when fully extended. It features a control panel with various settings for fan speed, lighting, and special functions.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Maximum Operating Height: Up to 2000 meters above sea level.
  • Gas Hotplate Compatibility:
    • Maximum five single burners.
    • For 75 cm gas hotplates: Total maximum output 11.9 kW, rear hobs 4.7 kW, wok 4.2 kW.
    • For 90 cm gas hotplates: Total maximum output 13.7 kW, rear hobs 4.7 kW, wok 6 kW.
  • Lighting: LED lights, classified as risk group 1 due to their dazzling nature. Direct viewing for more than 100 seconds is not recommended.
  • Filters: Metal grease filters (for grease removal) and activated carbon filters (for odor removal in recirculation mode). Activated carbon filters can be regenerable (up to ten times) or non-regenerable.
  • Power Supply: The appliance must be correctly installed and connected to the mains. In case of damage or malfunction, it should be unplugged or the circuit breaker switched off.
  • Safety Standards: Complies with European Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE) for electrical and electronic equipment disposal.

Usage Features

  • Control Panel: The appliance is operated via a control panel with symbols for:
    • Extending/retracting the appliance, switching the fan on/off.
    • Fan speed settings (0, 1, 2, 3).
    • Intensive modes (1, 2) for heavy fumes/vapors.
    • Fan run-on time.
    • Saturation indicator for filters.
    • Lighting on/off.
  • Extending/Retracting: The appliance extends fully when activated and retracts automatically when switched off, provided the filter cover is closed and no objects are in its movement area.
  • Fan Settings: Users can adjust the fan speed (1, 2, 3) to match cooking conditions. A higher fan speed is recommended for large amounts of steam or fumes.
  • Intensive Setting: Two intensive modes are available for significant odor and fume build-up. These modes typically run for approximately 7 minutes before automatically reverting to fan setting 3.
  • Fan Run-on Time: A fan run-on function allows the fan to continue operating at setting 1 for 10 minutes after cooking to clear residual fumes, then switches off automatically. This feature is not available if intensive mode is active.
  • Lighting: The LED lighting can be switched on and off independently of the ventilation system.
  • Energy Saving Tips:
    • Ensure adequate air supply during cooking.
    • Adjust fan speed to the amount of steam; use intensive mode only when necessary.
    • Switch off the hood and lighting when no longer needed.
    • Clean/replace filters regularly.
    • Use lids on cookware to reduce steam and condensation.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning Intervals:
    • Metal grease filters should be cleaned at least once a month to prevent fire hazards from fatty deposits.
    • Activated carbon filters (in recirculation mode) should be regenerated or replaced regularly, at least every 2 months, as indicated by the saturation display.
  • Saturation Display: The control panel features indicators for filter saturation:
    • Solid light for metal grease filter saturation.
    • Flashing light for activated charcoal filter saturation.
    • After cleaning or replacing filters, the saturation display can be reset by pressing and holding the designated button for approximately 3 seconds.
  • Cleaning Metal Grease Filters:
    • Removal: Extend the appliance, open the filter cover, and remove the filters from their guides. The oil collection container and protective plate can also be removed for more effective cleaning.
    • Methods: Can be cleaned in a dishwasher (slight discoloration may occur but does not affect function) or by hand using hot soapy water and a brush. Aggressive, acidic, or alkaline cleaning agents should be avoided.
    • Installation: Reinsert the oil collection container, then the metal grease filter, and close the filter cover.
  • Regenerating/Replacing Activated Charcoal Filters (Recirculation Mode):
    • Regeneration: Regenerable filters can be heated in a preheated oven at 100 °C for 1 hour in air recirculation mode, then allowed to cool. This can be done up to ten times. Ensure the room is well-ventilated during regeneration.
    • Replacement: Non-regenerable filters must be replaced. Damaged regenerated filters should also be replaced.
    • Cleaning Restrictions: Activated charcoal filters should never be cleaned in a dishwasher or with a wet cloth.
    • Installation: Place the activated charcoal filter onto the metal grease filter and fix it to the grille.
  • General Cleaning:
    • Surfaces: Clean stainless steel surfaces in the direction of the grain using hot soapy water and a soft cloth. Painted surfaces can be cleaned similarly. Glass surfaces can be cleaned with glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Aluminium and plastic surfaces can be cleaned with glass cleaner.
    • Controls: Clean with a damp cloth; avoid wet cloths to prevent damage to electronic circuitry. Do not use stainless steel cleaners on controls.
    • Safety: Always unplug the appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before cleaning. Wear protective gloves due to sharp edges inside. Do not use high-pressure or steam cleaners.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a table of common malfunctions, possible causes (e.g., power cut, faulty fuse, filter cover not closed, defective control unit, defective LED lights, saturated filters), and corresponding solutions.
  • Water Ingress: If water enters the appliance, switch it off, mop up leaking water, and leave it off for 24 hours before resuming use.
  • Customer Service: Contact information is provided for after-sales service, including product number (E no.) and production number (FD no.) to ensure correct advice and repairs by trained technicians using original spare parts.
  • Accessories: Information on available accessories, such as air recirculation accessory sets, active carbon filter replacement filters, and remote installation sets, is provided with their respective order numbers.
