Overview

This document describes the Bosch Fridge-Freezer, model KGN.., a free-standing appliance designed for refrigerating and freezing food, as well as making ice. It is intended for domestic use and can operate at altitudes up to 2000 meters above sea level.

Function Description:

The Bosch Fridge-Freezer is a combined refrigeration and freezing unit. The refrigerator compartment is ideal for storing meat, sausage, fish, dairy products, eggs, ready meals, and pastries. The freezer compartment is used for storing deep-frozen food, making ice cubes, and freezing fresh food. The appliance features a fully automatic NoFrost system, eliminating the need for manual defrosting in the freezer compartment. It also includes an "eco" function for energy-saving operation, which automatically sets the freezer compartment temperature to -16°C. An alarm system alerts the user if the door is left open for too long or if the freezer compartment temperature rises to a level that risks thawing frozen food.

Important Technical Specifications:

The appliance operates on 220–240 V/50 Hz alternating current and requires a correctly installed socket with a protective conductor, protected by a 10 A to 16 A fuse. Information on refrigerant type, net volume, and further technical specifications can be found on the rating plate. The appliance is designed for specific climate classes (SN, N, ST, T), indicating the permitted ambient temperatures for operation. For instance, climate class SN allows operation from +10 °C to 32 °C, while T allows operation from +16 °C to 43 °C. The refrigeration circuit is checked for leaks and complies with relevant safety regulations for electrical appliances, including noise suppression. The appliance features a maintenance-free LED light.

Usage Features:

The fridge-freezer is controlled via a temperature selection button, a "super" display for super freezing, a temperature display for the freezer compartment, and an Eco mode indicator.

  • Switching On: After installation, wait at least 1 hour before switching on. Insert the plug, press the temperature setting button to silence the warning signal, and the appliance will begin cooling.
  • Temperature Setting: The refrigerator compartment temperature is set using a temperature controller (Fig. 1/8). The freezer compartment temperature can be set from -18°C to -24°C by repeatedly pressing the temperature setting button (Fig. 2/1). The last set value is saved and displayed.
  • Eco Mode: To activate, press the temperature setting button until the eco indicator lights up.
  • Super Freezing: This function rapidly freezes food to retain nutritional value, flavor, and appearance. It should be activated several hours before placing fresh food in the freezer, especially for large quantities (24 hours prior for maximum freezing capacity). Super freezing automatically switches off after approximately 2.5 days.
  • Alarm Functions: A door alarm sounds if the appliance door is open for more than one minute. A temperature alarm activates if the freezer compartment becomes too warm, indicated by a flashing temperature display (Fig. 2/3). The alarm can be switched off by pressing the temperature setting button.
  • Storage: Food should be packed or covered well to retain aroma, color, and freshness, and to prevent flavor transfer and discoloration of plastic parts. Warm food and drinks should be cooled before placing them in the appliance.
  • Chill Zones: The refrigerator compartment has different chill zones due to air circulation. The coldest zone is in the upper area, suitable for perishable foods like fish and meat. The warmest zone is at the bottom of the door and in the vegetable container, suitable for items like hard cheese and butter.
  • Vegetable Container (Fig. 1/9): Designed to keep leafy vegetables fresh for longer with high air humidity. The humidity can be adjusted by the amount of stored food.
  • Freezer Compartment Usage: To maximize freezer volume, containers can be removed, allowing food to be stacked directly on shelves and the compartment floor. Frozen food containers should be inserted all the way to ensure unrestricted air circulation.
  • Thawing Frozen Food: Frozen food can be thawed at room temperature, in the refrigerator, in an electric oven, or in a microwave. Thawed food should not be refrozen, except for ready meals.
  • Interior Fittings: Shelves in the door (Fig. 5) and glass shelves can be repositioned or removed for cleaning. Frozen food containers (Fig. 7) can also be removed.
  • Ice Pack: Can be used to temporarily cool food or slow thawing during a power failure.
  • Ice Cube Tray (Fig. 8): Fill 3/4 full with water and place in the freezer. Twist or briefly hold under running water to loosen ice cubes.
  • Breakfast Set (Fig. 9): Individual containers can be taken out and filled.
  • Bottle Shelf (Fig. 10): Provides secure storage for bottles.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse. Remove frozen food and store it in a cool location, ideally with an ice pack. Clean the appliance with a soft cloth, lukewarm water, and a pH-neutral washing-up liquid. The door seal should be wiped with clear water and then dried thoroughly. Do not use abrasive, chloride, or acidic cleaning agents, solvents, or scouring sponges, as these can corrode metallic surfaces or deform plastic parts. Do not clean shelves or containers in a dishwasher. Ensure cleaning water does not enter controls, lighting, ventilation openings, or the separating plate.
  • Sticker "OK": (Not all models) This sticker indicates if the refrigerator compartment has reached the recommended safe temperature of +4 °C or colder. If "OK" is not displayed, gradually reduce the temperature. It may take up to 12 hours for the set temperature to be reached after switching on.
  • Switching Off and Disconnecting: For prolonged periods of non-use, pull out the mains plug or switch off the fuse, clean the appliance, and leave the doors open.
  • Light (LED): The appliance features a maintenance-free LED light that can only be repaired by customer service or authorized technicians.
