Function Description

The Bosch SHV78B73UC Dishwasher is designed for cleaning household dishware and kitchenware rated as dishwasher safe. It operates in private households and enclosed residential environments, up to an altitude of 8200 ft (2500 m) above sea level. Usage Features

The dishwasher offers a variety of cycles and options to suit different cleaning needs:

Cycles:

  • Heavy: For pots, pans, non-fragile dishware, and silverware with stubborn burned or dried-on food remnants (starch and protein). Includes Intensive, Pre-Rinse, Cleaning (151-160 °F), Intermediate rinse, Final rinse (151 °F), and Drying.
  • Auto: For mixed dishware and silverware with common household food remnants, lightly dried-on. Sensor-controlled, optimizing based on rinsing water soiling.
  • Normal: Most economical cycle for mixed dishware and silverware with common household food remnants, lightly dried-on. Includes Pre-Rinse, Cleaning (113-146 °F), Intermediate rinse, Final rinse (136 °F), and Drying.
  • Delicate: For delicate dishware, silverware, temperature-sensitive plastics, glasses, and stemware with lightly dried-on food remnants. Includes Pre-Rinse, Cleaning (113-122 °F), Intermediate rinse, Final rinse (122 °F), and Drying.
  • Express: Time-optimized for delicate dishware, silverware, temperature-sensitive plastics, and glasses with lightly adhering fresh food remnants. Includes Cleaning (113 °F), Intermediate rinse, and Final rinse (124 °F).
  • Machine Care: For use with an unloaded appliance to clean the tub.
  • Favorite: A customizable button to save a combination of a cycle and an option. Pre-programmed with a pre-rinse cycle for all types of dishware, using cold water.

Options:

  • Crystal Dry: Patented technology for thoroughly drying dishes and plastics, transforming moisture into heat up to 176°F/80°C for 60% drier results. Extends drying time.
  • Half Load: Reduces consumption for small loads, shortens run time, and reduces energy and water consumption.
  • Sanitize: Increases and maintains a higher temperature for an extra-long period to ensure a higher hygiene status, especially suitable for cleaning chopping boards or baby bottles. Increases run time and energy consumption.

Rack Features:

  • Upper rack: Adjustable height to accommodate larger items.
  • Silverware Basket: For arranging silverware with sharp points down.
  • Silverware drawer: Can be reorganized by folding down side shelves and front tines to create space for longer or wider utensils.
  • Cup shelf: For small cups, glasses, or large silverware items. Can be folded up when not needed.
  • Flip tines: Used to securely position dishware like plates, or folded down for pans, bowls, and glasses.
  • Small items holder: For light plastic parts.
  • Bottle holder: For tall narrow items like bottles or vases.

Basic Operation:

  • Switching on/off: Press the ON/OFF button. The appliance automatically switches off after 10 minutes of inactivity or 4 seconds after the wash cycle ends if the door is opened.
  • Setting a cycle and options: Select desired cycle and options using the respective buttons.
  • Electronic delay time: Delay the start of the wash cycle by up to 24 hours.
  • Starting/Interrupting/Terminating: Start the cycle with the Start button. The cycle can be interrupted by pressing On/Off and resumed by pressing Start. To terminate, press Reset for 4 seconds, then close the door.

Water Softening System:

  • Adjustable based on water hardness (0-62 °E) to prevent limescale. Special dishwasher salt is added to a dedicated dispenser. Can be switched off if water hardness is low or combined detergents with salt replacement substances are used.

Rinse Aid System:

  • For optimum drying results. The amount of rinse aid dispensed can be adjusted (r:00 - r:06) to prevent streaks or water spots. Can be switched off.

Detergent:

  • Supports basic (powder, liquid) and combination detergents (tabs). Dosage can be adjusted based on soiling level. Tabs are convenient but may not dissolve fully in shorter cycles. Liquid detergent works faster and is recommended for shorter cycles without pre-rinse.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning the tub: Remove heavy soiling with a damp cloth. Run a program with the highest temperature and detergent without dishware.
  • Appliance care tips: Regularly wipe door seals, front, and control panel with a damp cloth and dishwashing liquid. Leave the door slightly ajar if the appliance will not be used for a while to prevent odors.
  • Machine Care: A program to remove grease, limescale, food remnants, and deposits. Run without dishware using machine care products. The indicator lights up when Machine Care is recommended.
  • Filter system: Consists of micro, fine, and coarse filters. Check and clean filters after each dishwashing cycle by removing and rinsing them under running water.
  • Spray arms: Clean regularly to remove limescale and soiling that may block nozzles and bearings. Unscrew and remove spray arms to clean outlet nozzles and remove foreign objects.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for various issues, including error codes, drying problems, food remnants, detergent residue, water spots, and noise. It offers solutions such as adjusting settings, cleaning components, and contacting customer service.
