Do you have a question about the Boston Scientific Vercise DBS Charging and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Vercise™ DBS Charging Handbook describes the Boston Scientific Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) System, a reversible therapy that stimulates brain structures with small electrical pulses. The system includes a rechargeable Stimulator that requires periodic recharging using the Charging System. This handbook provides detailed instructions for charging the Stimulator, outlining the components, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Vercise DBS Charging System is designed to recharge the Stimulator battery. The system comprises a Charger, a Base Station, a Power Supply, and a Charging Collar. The Charging Collar holds the Charger over the Stimulator, ensuring proper alignment for efficient charging. The system is intended for use with a rechargeable DBS Stimulator and is crucial for maintaining the Stimulator's functionality and providing continuous therapy.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rechargeable Stimulator Battery Life: The Stimulator battery is expected to provide at least five years of service, and in many cases, up to 25 years, depending on stimulation settings and conditions. Over time, with repeated charging, the battery's ability to recover its full capacity will diminish, requiring more frequent charging intervals.
  • Charger Battery Service Life: The Charger battery has a typical service life of 500 charging cycles.
  • Charging Time: A daily recharging time of 5 to 30 minutes or a periodic recharging time of 30 minutes to 4 hours every 1 to 2 weeks is expected. Actual recharge routines may vary based on stimulation settings and individual needs.
  • Product Model Numbers:
    • DB-64125: Vercise Charging System
    • DB-6300-C: Vercise Charging Collar Accessories
    • DB-6200-C: Vercise Charging Collar, Small
    • DB-6100-C: Vercise Charging Collar, Medium
    • NM-6350: Adhesive Kit
    • NM-5312: Charger
    • NM-5305: Base Station
    • NM-6305: Power Supply & Adapter For Charger (EU)

Usage Features:

  • Recharge Routine Development: Users are encouraged to find a balance between power requirements for effective therapy, desired recharge frequency, duration, and personal schedule. The Remote Control provides a Stimulator battery meter and low battery alerts, prompting timely recharging to prevent loss of stimulation.
  • Charging the Charger:
    • The Charger is placed in the Base Station, with the power button facing up, and connected to a standard AC wall outlet via the Power Supply.
    • Charger Indicator Light:
      • Green: Charger is fully charged and ready to charge the Stimulator.
      • Yellow: Charger is partially charged and may not fully charge the Stimulator, potentially requiring an earlier recharge.
      • Off: Charger is off or battery is empty. If pressing the Power Button doesn't turn it on, place it in the Base Station.
  • Charging the Stimulator:
    • The Charger is used with either the Charging Collar or an Adhesive Patch to hold it over the Stimulator. Adhesive Patches are made of non-reactive, natural latex-free material suitable for sensitive skin.
    • Warnings: Do not charge while sleeping to avoid burns. The Charger may warm up during charging and should be handled with care. Failure to use the Charging Collar or Adhesive Patch as instructed may result in burns.
  • Using the Charging Collar:
    • Available in small and medium sizes.
    • The Charger is inserted into the appropriate pocket of the collar with the power button facing outward. The counterweight is placed in the opposite pocket.
    • The collar is worn around the neck with pockets facing out.
    • Proper alignment of the Charger over the Stimulator is crucial for optimal charging. The collar can be adjusted using straps.
    • The collar can be worn under or over clothing, but tight or heavy clothing should be avoided to allow airflow.
    • Do not use the Charging Collar when wet or damp.
  • Using the Adhesive Patch:
    • The transparent liner is peeled off the patch, and the white side with the blue stripe is applied to the back of the Charger.
    • The beige skin-side liner is then removed (for single use only).
    • The Charger with the patch is positioned over the Stimulator, ensuring it is centered for optimal charging.
    • Do not place the Charger directly on the skin without an Adhesive Patch.
  • Properly Aligning the Charger:
    • Press the power button; the Charger will beep repeatedly while searching for the Stimulator.
    • The beeping stops when the Charger is partially aligned. For optimal charging, the Charger must be centered over the Stimulator.
    • To fully align, position the bottom curve of the Charger approximately 1 cm lower than the bottom curve of the Stimulator.
    • Moving around while charging is acceptable, but the Charger must remain centered over the Stimulator. Excessive movement can cause misalignment.
    • A distinct double beep indicates the Stimulator battery is fully charged.
  • Charger Sound Alerts:
    • Repeated Single Beep: Charger is searching for the Stimulator and is not properly aligned.
    • Repeated Double Beep: Stimulator battery is fully charged.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Charger, Base Station, and Power Supply: These components can be cleaned with alcohol or a mild detergent applied with a cloth or tissue. Soapy residue should be removed with a damp cloth. Abrasive cleansers should not be used. Do not clean these components while connected to a power outlet.
  • Cleaning the Charging Collar: Hand wash with mild soap and warm water. Do not machine wash. Air dry the collar. Ensure the Charger and Counterweight are removed before washing.
