Overview

This document is the User Manual for the BPE PB Series Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). It provides comprehensive information regarding the system's introduction, safety instructions, front panel indications, installation and operation procedures, startup process, troubleshooting guide, and a warranty certificate.

The BPE PB Series UPS is described as an advanced true On-Line Uninterrupted Power System. Its primary function is to deliver reliable and pure sine wave power to various types of equipment, including computers, sensitive medical instruments, telecommunication systems, and industrial equipment. The "On-Line" design is a key feature, enabling the system to continuously and automatically adjust and filter power fluctuations under normal power conditions. In the event of a power failure, the UPS provides immediate backup power from external batteries without any interruption. Once mains power is restored, the system automatically switches back to mains operation and recharges the batteries.

A block diagram illustrates the internal components and power flow of the UPS. Key components include a rectifier, inverter, and a bypass line, indicating a double-conversion online architecture. This design ensures that the load is always supplied with clean, regulated power, isolated from incoming utility power fluctuations.

A significant technical specification highlighted is the use of IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology. The manual states that the latest generation IGBTs are utilized in the inverter part of the UPS. This technology, combined with Pulse Width Modulation techniques, achieves maximum operational efficiency and ensures that even non-linear loads are supplied with a precise sinusoidal signal. This is crucial for sensitive electronic equipment that requires stable and clean power.

Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety instructions that must be strictly followed during installation and maintenance. These include:

  • The manual contains important safety instructions for installation and maintenance.
  • The UPS contains potentially hazardous voltages, requiring contact with qualified personnel for service.
  • The UPS is compatible with external storage energy sources (batteries), requiring proper verification of battery terminals before connection.
  • A ground wire must be connected at the input during installation.
  • The UPS should be connected to a single-phase 230V, 3-wire input (phase, neutral, and earth) at the respective marked points (L, N, E).
  • Battery replacement and maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Replacement batteries must match the quantity and types of original specifications.
  • To prevent explosions, fire or heating resources should be kept away from batteries or battery packs.
  • Batteries should not be disassembled or damaged, as the electrolyte is poisonous and harmful to eyes and skin.
  • Batteries contain high voltage and current, posing a significant risk.
  • Battery terminals should not be short-circuited.

Front Panel Indications:

The manual includes a diagram of the front panel, which typically features indicators for various operational statuses and controls. While specific indicators are not detailed in the text, the presence of a "Front Panel Diagram" suggests visual cues for system status, alarms, and control buttons.

Rear Panel Diagram:

The rear panel diagrams show different configurations for 1/1 (single-phase input, single-phase output) and 3/1 (three-phase input, single-phase output) UPS models. These diagrams illustrate the input and output terminals, clearly marked for Neutral (N), Line (L), and Earth (E) connections. The presence of both 1/1 and 3/1 configurations indicates the versatility of the PB Series UPS to cater to different power requirements and electrical infrastructures.

Installation & Operation:

  • Unpacking & Inspection: Users are instructed to examine the packing carton for any damage upon receipt and notify the carrier if damage is found. The packaging should be retained for future use.
  • UPS Installation:
    • Connect the input power to an MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) of recommended capacity in the distribution board.
    • Charge the batteries for 8 hours before initial use to ensure all batteries reach a similar voltage level. The UPS automatically recharges batteries when plugged into a wall outlet.
    • The UPS can be used immediately without recharging, but backup time may be reduced.
    • Connect the output load to the UPS.
    • It is mandatory to connect the ground point to prevent any malfunctioning.
  • Operational Instructions: Ensure that installation procedures, metering, controls, and indications are followed, and that a battery of the rated voltage is connected to the system.

Startup Process of the UPS:

The startup process is detailed in a step-by-step manner:

  1. Connect the mains power and battery wire properly to the UPS terminal block.
  2. Turn ON the Input Power and check voltages at the UPS terminal block and battery voltage.
  3. Once all voltages appear normal, close the Input mains breaker. Press the "Start Switch." The "INVERTER ON LED" will illuminate, and output AC voltage should be visible on the meter. After approximately 10 seconds, the "LOAD ON INVERTER LED" will glow. Check the output voltage on the meter, verify the battery charger voltage at the terminal, and then close the battery MCB after confirming the voltage.
  4. Connect the load to the system's output and ensure its satisfactory operation.
  5. The inverter may trip under specific conditions, indicated by a respective LED:
    • Overload
    • DC Under/Over Voltage
    • Output (AC) Over Voltage
    • DC bus high If a trip occurs, the corresponding LED will indicate the cause. After resolving the issue, the inverter can be restarted by pressing the start switch.

Trouble Shooting Chart:

The manual includes a comprehensive trouble-shooting chart to help users diagnose and resolve common issues. Before switching ON or OFF the inverter, users are advised to switch off all loads at the output.
